My Uncle Oswald by Roald Dahl

Hi.

I'm an absolutely HUGE Roald Dahl fan. His books made up my younger years and then when I got older, I still read them.

My favourite one is one that most people have never heard of and it depresses me that so little of my goodreads friends and real life ones haven't even bothered to read it.

This is NOT a kids book. It actually shocked me when I first read it because it was different from anything else I've read of his.

Of course, I am talking about My Uncle Oswald

'Uncle Oswald is, if you remember, the greatest rogue, bounder, connoisseur, bon vivant and fornicator of all time. Here, many famous names are mentioned and there is obviously a grave risk that families and friends are going to take offence...
Uncle Oswald discovers the electrifying properties of the Sudanese Blister Beetle and the gorgeous Yasmin Howcomely, a girl absolutely soaked in sex, and sets about seducing all the great men of the time for his own wicked, irreverent reasons.'


A more caveman like summary is that this guy discovers an amazing Viagra then uses this woman to make some of the finest men in the world pay insane amounts of money for it.

But it's so much more! It's just a really great read.


I don't tend to recommend books as I think everyone has such unique tastes, plus my tastes are downright horrific, but I need to with this one!

Being a history dork and a Roald Dahl fan I'm probably expected to like this but for 500k?! Surely that is a BIT much?

Considering you could build a decent detached house round here for that Simon, I'd say not! I also wondered how much his estate was worth. He must have left a decent bit to family although I know it was years ago. Cynical old beggar I am.

I tripped over Uncle Oswald while waiting at the physiotherapist's a while back. Had never heard of it but loved it! I really must buy it, I only got through the first few pages before the physio showed up!
