Shayla (shaylaalexander) ANYWHOM...

Paradox:

There was once a barber. Some say that he lived in Seville. Wherever he lived, all of the men in this town either shaved themselves or were shaved by the barber. And the barber only shaved the men who did not shave themselves.

That is a nice story. But it raises the question: Did the barber shave himself?

Iviana (The Sign Painter) Mʘ‿ʘP (thesignpainter) | 350 comments There could be more than one barber, or perhaps he went to a different town.

message 54: by Rudy (new)

Rudy | 484 comments The barber didn't shave. He didn't have a beard either. Because the barber wasn't a man, thus he didn't need to shave himself or be shaved by the barber.

Iviana (The Sign Painter) Mʘ‿ʘP (thesignpainter) | 350 comments You know women shave, right? xD they just don't talk about it.

Shayla (shaylaalexander) PARADOX

In the case of Christianity: (Please don't take this the wrong way. it's jst to get you to think about the Paradox, not to bring this into a religion debate.)

God is omnipotent (all-powerful) which means there is nothing God can't do.
So...can God build a mountain so large He can't move it?

message 60: by Rudy (new)

Rudy | 484 comments I'm not Christian, but I think I have a solution. Yes He could. And then he would move it anyway.

message 61: by Vish (new)

Vish L (vertimus) There is nothing he can do that he cant undo...
His omnipotency works against himself

Iviana (The Sign Painter) Mʘ‿ʘP (thesignpainter) | 350 comments I really want to say some stuff, but it would be "offensive", so I'll just not say. But I agree with Rudy.

It's not a paradox. You're just asking for a list of reasons for you to be screaming. To which I would create a witty retort, but I honestly don't have the will to.

Vish L (vertimus) Paradox-

A Rajah steals "The Sands of Death" from its creater, the Empress of Death. And thus he corrupts the world by releasing these sands. A Prince, whose father dies in the corruption, goes back in time to kill the Empress, so that the Sands would never be created. He kills her and returns home. But by killing her, he accidently creates the sands from her body. And later the Rajah steals it and corrupts the world. Then prince goes back in time ...
And it goes on and on....

It seems this is a circle. One action leads to another. The world is stuck in a loop.

So, Is this a paradox??

Iviana (The Sign Painter) Mʘ‿ʘP (thesignpainter) | 350 comments Shaystar wrote: "I think it does, but that's why it's a paradox. Like a rubix cube!"

This annoys me to no end. It is not rubix. It is Rubik's. As in, it is the cube belonging to Rubik. >_<

1. Please stop using the ellipsis (...)? They're annoying and unnecessary.
2. It's not a paradox. It's just a loop. A paradox occurs when you have two or more contradicting points that kind of makes sense in your head. This statement is false would be an example.

message 72: by Vish (last edited Sep 18, 2011 09:56AM) (new)

Vish L (vertimus) Oh! Iv is in a really bad mood! Or maybe you are always like this :D

1. (...) are not annoying. The are used to trail off a sentence (atleast by me). I used a bit too much of it in my previous post, so I have edited it. I have a habit of using it, and I dont wanna let go of it. But I sure can apologise...

2. Even I said its a loop. But its a complicated one. Not simple like the phoenix loop. Each action leads to the next. And this story is from a popular game.
Maybe its not a paradox, I just thought it was..

3. I dont know whats annoying about Rubix. It is not the original term, but its shorter, the 'x' looks better than " k's ". Its easier to type..

4 pennies please..*holds out hat*

It is not a paradox. It is a plot to a video game.

1. When used in unnecessary amounts they become annoying. Like, when you put ten periods instead of three, it becomes ridiculous.

2. It's a loop. It's not a paradox.

3. -_- Go look at a Rubik's cube. Look at the company name. And then get back to me. Rubik's is correct. Rubix isn't. Because Rubix isn't a word. Rubik is.

message 75: by Rudy (new)

Rudy | 484 comments I would say it isn't a paradox. I agree with Ivi. Its just a loop.

message 76: by Vish (new)

Vish L (vertimus) Did I put 10? Sorry about that :(
Thanks for clarifying, even I wasnt sure it was a paradox.

Lol...I already admitted in my previous post that Rubix is not the original term. I like to use this term coz its stylish(??) and shorter. I use a non-touch phone for browsing nowadays and typing in the apostrophe is not exactly an easy thing.

:D

Iviana (The Sign Painter) Mʘ‿ʘP (thesignpainter) | 350 comments Yes, because typing two more characters in to be correct and smart is really that hard. -.- If you're too lazy to put in a symbol, by all means, take it out. You'd still be a little more correct than Rubix.

message 78: by Vish (last edited Sep 18, 2011 01:32PM) (new)

Vish L (vertimus) Its not that I am lazy, well maybe a bit :p, but I have to press a lot of keys to put in apostrophe. Kinda frustrating

message 79: by Cloudy Storms (new)

Cloudy Storms (cloudstrife) | 347 comments ALOT? '. There. '. '. There again. ' LOOK! It's a BIRD! It's a PLANE! No, it's an APOSTROPHE! I think.
:D My brain is mush, but it's still there.

But it's also the same for Iphone. Press the symbol button. Press the apostrophe. Done. HTC RULES OVA IPHONE BUDDY.

THIS. SENTENCE. IS. FALSE.

Iviana (The Sign Painter) Mʘ‿ʘP (thesignpainter) | 350 comments I already posted that one.
Alot isn't a word. A. Lot.

message 81: by Isabella (new)

Isabella What's the big deal? It's just an apostrophe let it go!

message 82: by Vish (new)

Vish L (vertimus) I am stuck with a non-touch Nokia phone for now :(
Had to return my Iphone 3g and sadly my Wildfire is gone (i cracked the screen badly)
So an apostrophe is hard to type in. :(

message 83: by Vish (new)

Vish L (vertimus) An apostrophe is an important thing Isairon...*looks pointedly*

message 84: by Isabella (new)

Isabella not to me....no point, lol get it ' - not that important is it....not when plain chatting huh?

Yeah in work but otherwise not bothered

message 85: by Isabella (new)

message 86: by Vish (new)

Vish L (vertimus) Don't say that in front Ivi. She will tear you to pieces...arg warg
I will join her too...garw..roar
Maybe not tear you to pieces. Nevermind.
You have improved.
Btw we are spamming, so don't post anymore here.

message 87: by Cloudy Storms (new)

Cloudy Storms (cloudstrife) | 347 comments Yes you are.

You see, spamming is bad, but spam is good.

It's not a paradox, and I misused puncuation to make it more vauge.

The apple fell from my head.

My head, fell from the apple. O.o

How to make a good paradox...?

Iviana (The Sign Painter) Mʘ‿ʘP (thesignpainter) | 350 comments Liar paradox: Is the answer to this question no?

Paradox of tolerance: Should one tolerate intolerance; if intolerance would destroy the possibility of tolerance?

Grandfather paradox: You travel back in time and kill your grandfather before he conceives one of your parents, which precludes your own conception and, therefore, you couldn't go back in time and kill your grandfather.

Fitch's paradox: If all truths are knowable, then all truths must in fact be known.

Dinus' paradox: Can God create himself? If God is everywhere, is he in hell?

Paradox of hedonism: In seeking happiness, one does not find happiness.

Nice. I've just always been enthralled in the idea of doing things without much force necessary. Telekinesis, the Accio Charm, the Force, etc.
