The "wrong" author seems to be empty so as I've learned recently, it doesn't actually need deleting. Apparently PTB are planning to run a script that'll remove all empty authors.

As there are no books attached to the wrong author name, there really isn't any links to that author either so it doesn't really matter if the empty profile keeps existing.

Ah, ok. Thanks for the info! I had already deleted the book attached to the author (which had a second instance attached to the correct version of the author).

Chris, are you sure that was not a legitimate edition? The author could be entered in incorrectly but a good edition. Please be very careful when deleting books.

D'oh. That's something I'll not forget again, having just added the Nook & Kindle editions to the correct author after reading your comment.

So, what I should have done is changed the author on those editions to the correct author, then combined?

Yes. If you edit the author (not on the book page but the author page) it will merge the two authors (you get to select the profile you want to keep) and then all of the books from both profiles will be under one. Then combine.

I don't think combining would have worked with this author, as the correct one is a Goodreads author and they (I believe) are the only ones who can edit their profiles. Maybe a super can, though.

I'll mention that to the author - the issue started with books loaded from B&N and Amazon, so she's probably going to have this come up again and should just come her herself next time, with the author merge request.
