Betsy (mistymtladi) | 69 comments Reading the second of my newly bought Harlan Coban's books. Both are about his detective/agent/former basketball star,Myron Bolitar. In Promise Me, Myron has made a young girl promise that she will call him to drive her home, if she is inebriated or has to ride with a drunk driver. Then the girl takes Myron up on his offer, she disappears and never makes it home.

Enjoy!! I love his Bolitar series. The stand-alones are good as well, but I love Myron's sense of humor, and his other characters, like Big-Chief Mama and Win. They never fail to make me laugh out loud.

Deanne | 61 comments Reading The Red House Mystery by A.A.Milne, keep expecting to find out that it was Piglet in the library with the candlestick. Written in 1922 and set in an English country house reminds me of Christie.

Beth Did everyone know that October is Mystery Month? To celebrate, I'm trying to get a little more caught up in two of my favorite series, those written by Krueger, William Kent and Louise Penny. I'm reading Thunder Bay: A Cork O'Connor Mystery Thunder Bay A Cork O'Connor Mystery by William Kent Krueger now, and I'm really enjoying it. Next on my list is The Cruellest Month The Cruellest Month (Armand Gamache, #3) by Louise Penny .

Tom Arthur | 30 comments Just started Shanghai Moon by SJ Rozan a Lydia Chin / Bill Smith series mystery. I've enjoyed all the previous books and I'm sure this one will be equally enjoyable.

Linda Boyd (boydlinda95gmailcom) | 35 comments I'm reading Play Dead by Harlan Coben, it is his first book, and you can really tell that it is. It is not classic Harlan, but not a bad read. It is a slow read for me right now because I am reading this on my Nook and reading it for free and you can only do that in the store, for an hour at a time.

message 1264: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 41 comments I picked up SHOOTERS AND CHASERS based on the recommendation of Amazon Mystery Readers Cafe members, and I'm so glad I did. I'm truly shocked that this book didn't garner more attention, it's hands down one of the best debuts of last year. Author Lenny Kleinfeld's character and setting description is simply unparalleled. I really can't recommend this book highly enough, the story grabbed hold on page one and never let up.

I know exactly what you mean. Lisa (the author) is pretty active on this website and a prolific reader. Izzy and the whole Spellman gang are a GAS!!!

Enjoy!

Tom Arthur | 30 comments I wrapped up reading The Shanghai Moon by S.J. Rozan. A superb addition to the Lydia Chin / Bill Smith series. Rozan weaves the story from WWII era Shanghai to modern day Chinatown in NYC in a masterful way. Fans of Rozan will not be dissapointed and for those not familiar I recommend the series wholeheartedly!!

Last night I started reading Calumet City by Charlie Newton. I was drawn to this book by the simple fact that I spent the first seven years of my life in this Chicago suburb.

Deanne | 61 comments I've just finished The colour of Murder by Julian Symons, set in the England in the 1950's.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) How was it?

message 1272: by Deanne (new)

Deanne | 61 comments Very good with a twist at the end. It's on the top 100 crime list and Symons won a golden dagger for this in 1957, makes me want to find more of his books.

message 1273: by Dia (new)

Dia | 67 comments I recently finished James Patterson's The Post Card Killers. It was a good, fast (as all of his are) read. Am now reading the first book in Nancy Pickard's "Truth" trilogy, The Whole Truth. I read the third installment not knowing it was a trilogy, but they work as stand alone books as well. I am really liking it. Kind of a book-within-a-book, as the main character is a true-crime writer.

Although I've only read one of Nancy Pickard's books so far, I'm a big fan and plan to read more. Thanks for the tip.

I didn't realize The Truth Hurts was part of a trilogy until I wrote to her and she told me when she wrote back. I have the second one on deck and then I am going to start her Jenny Cain series.

It was one of her Jenny Cain's that I read: Twilight. What drew me to the story was an intelligent amateur sleuth and a story that really explored the psychological aspects of guilt and innocence. Enjoy!

Sorry it took so long to answer. Finished Faithful place and moved on to The Historian,700 page book so I've been reading and have not been back here for a few days. I ended up enjoying Faithful Place but In The Woods is still my favorite of hers. And yes, I felt it started slow also (so did Faithful Place ). The second book of hers (The Likeness)did not speak to me at all for some reason but most people really loved it.

message 1288: by Cupcakencorset (new)

Cupcakencorset | 2 comments I'm 2/3 through Tess Gerritsen's The Surgeon. It's her first book in the series that inspired Rizzoli & Isles, although Homicide Detective Jane Rizzoli is not the main character and Isles is not included at all. It's a good read, as much because Gerritsen writes so readably (I know you all know what I mean.) as because of the story and characters.

I loved Shutter Island. It's absolutely brilliant. After the release of the film by Scorsese I was considering rereading it, but there are so many other books waiting to be read that in the end I didn't. But it's definitely worth reading more than once, even though then it's not that shocking anymore :p
