message 1: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Day | 4 comments I need to find a quote from one of the books. I can't for the life of me remember which book it is in... but its something along the lines of:

"How terrible to be born a king and no have a crown,"

Claire is talking about Jamie, born a chieftan and Bonny Prince Charlie. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Sarah Dizon (sarahd828) Well I'm assuming since it's about Prince Charlie it would be in Dragonfly in Amber but I'm not positive about that.

Wasn't it more about how one is born a king and not have the leadership qualities for it?

From Voyager, at the end of Ch 12 Sacrifice: (Jamie is reflecting on his role as leader of the Ardsmuir men)
"He had been born a leader, then bent and shaped further to fit such a destiny. But what of a man who had not been born to the role he was required to fill? John Grey, for one. Charles Stuart for another.

For the first time in ten years, from this strange distance, he could find it in himself to forgive that feeble man who had once been his friend. Having so often paid the price exacted by his own gift, he could at last see the more terrible doom of having been born a king, without the gift of kingship.
