Hi Anne,So all of the other books on the shelf have not actually been read by the group? Maybe then they could be marked as 'to-read' or something other if they are suggestions. There are many books on the shelf that I would love to read as a group.
Thanks, Anne. Yes, I'm a newbie and Skylark is my first read with the group. So nice to have a place where I can discuss current reads with others and to hear different point of views -- allows for more to ponder.
Welcome Mikki,
Yes, basically the books that have been marked "read" are titles that have come out. But I think you're right, why don't I create some more shelves--one could simply be "Published" and just list the titles we have released, and then we could use the "Read" shelf as books that we have actually read here in the group. Both books that we have picked for our monthly reading club, and also books that have been discussed or mentioned in various other places.
Sound good?
Nick

Hi Nick,That sounds like a great idea. I just discovered NYRB last year and am thankful to be introduced to so many wonderful authors. The only issue that I've encountered so far is the growing pile collecting by my bedside -- the covers are so exquisite that I hate putting them on the bookshelves!

@Selena and Marieke: I agree and that's exactly why so many are huddled together around my bed--they look so good together! Here's my problem...I file books by genre and author so my fiction isn't with non-fiction and so on. And, to make it even worse, my fiction authors are separated by gender (crazy I know) and are in different rooms. I'm in Manhattan, where the apartments are smaller than most people's walk-in closets, and space is at a minimum. My poor shelves are practically overflowing and in need of serious editing. What's a book lover to do? Does anyone else have odd bookshelf arranging habits?
I think you need a floating shelf on your wall by your bed. It can be your one exception to your shelving system. As you collect more NYRB classics, you can easily replicate that system... :DIn my den I have a shelf of library books and books I hope to read in the next year or so, but I switch these out every few months as my reading plans change. Then in my basement I have some theme shelves...I don't want to call them genre...but they are Africa, middle east, German-language, reference, religion, American authors, history, classics (mythology and philosophy), math and science, biography, and I'm probably forgetting something...oh, war (cheerful). But this is an ongoing project because I moved two years ago and have not finished unpacking my books and I need more shelves.

However, I see that your living in the lap of luxury -- a den? a basement?. Now I have bookshelf envy. :D But isn't it funny that no matter how much space we have, there's never enough when it comes to books?
ha! i have friends in NY so yes, i definitely feel like i'm living in the lap of luxury. i should not complain. but my poor books! in boxes!no more wall space?? i say, move everything! create narrow thin little shelves to line up your NYRB classics books on, and eventually all the covers will look like wall paper... no? :D

If you happen to see my apartment featured in Elle Decor, be sure to look for your name in the credits. You'll know it's mine when you see an uber-minimalist space with nothing but a few rugs, floor pillows and NYRB titles lining the walls!
In the meantime, I'll just have to squeeze the books onto the shelves with all of the others. *sigh*

As I looked over the titles in the bookshelf, I see that all of them (except Skylark) are marked as read. Were these read as group club selections or were they being listed as books of interest? Because other than The Summer Book, I can't find any discussions. I would like to add a few titles to the list but am not sure how to categorize them; I'm thinking To-Read.
Is it possible to label an additional shelf where members can list books to choose from for the upcoming months?
