Yea...Weber is where I'm going to fall short in the discussion. i am aware of him and his status, but have never seen anything of his that interested me. Other than maybe a few of his collaborations with Ringo, and I haven't made it to them yet.
Loved On Basilisk Station and a lot of the other Honor Harrington series. It has its ups and downs but generally fun. The few non-Harrington books I've read of his I've enjoyed as well, although they are not for everyone. Generally, I find his books good escapist fun. Plus I love Honor's cat:)
The best series IMHO is the safehold series. The latest book Is "How firm a foundation" and it came out yesterday on kindle/print/audible.Is anyone else reading/going to read this?
I'm halfway through with On Basilisk Station and this is the type of series I've been looking for. This is an author I will definitely continue with. I'm fighting the urge to order more books online at the moment.* I love the cat too.

I read On Basilisk Station a few years ago. I now have every one in the series (only one in paperback, but all are ebooks from webscriptions.net) I also have all of them that are available in audio format from audible.com. I also got the Saganami Island Tactical Simulator (SITS) from adastragames.com.Now I'm trying to get into trmn.org, but there isn't much response there.
Yup. I like the Honorverse stories.
Weber's "In Fury Born" is a 3-in-1 book about a justice-minded female marine/commando.
I'm just beginning Honor books. I'm on book 2, but I am loving the series so far. I hope that I continue to do so. :)
After I read through the series I noted which chapters were "good stuff" and which were politics, talking, situations etc. Now I can go to the actions chapters and enjoy them. Every book has its action chapters. My least favorite was "In Enemy Hands" -- I dont like despair and triumphant jerks. "At All Costs" was kind of a bummer too. Also be aware of the other books. Eric Flint did "Crown of Slaves" and its sorta sequel "Torch of Freedom". They are part of the later books. There are some short stories of the first treecat bonding "a beautiful friendship" in "More Than Honor", the first bonding of a treecat with Manticoran royalty "What Price Dreams" in "Worlds of Honor". Midshipwoman Harrington is in "Warmasters". Executive Officer Harrington is ""Hard Way Home" in "Worlds of Honor". Captain Harrington of the destroyer Hawkwing is in "In Fire Forged". Those all happen before . In "Service of the Sword" is "With One Stone" (Timothy Zahn) which happens between "On Basilisk Station" and "Honor of the Queen".
Oh, and "Worlds of Honor" also contains two other treecat stories, and "Changer of Worlds" in "Changer of Worlds" is a treecat story as well.
Yes, John, I wish SITS was a PC game as well. It is darn tough to keep things straight. And merchants are real TUBS when it comes to maneuvering them around and it takes FOREVER to get them turned and changing velocity. But it allows some interesting scenarios for a FEW ships at a time. Reading the books is easier. 8-)
ALSO... "Changer of Worlds" also has the story about Midshipwoman Harrington. So if you dont want to read non-honorverse stories, skip "Warmasters" and go with "Changer of Worlds".
I've read the first two Honor Harrington books and enjoyed them.Of Weber's other books, I've read Off Armageddon Reef, which I guess mixes science fiction with a bit of medieval and religion. I have the sequel By Schism Rent Asunder on my to read list
Has the Safehold series picked up any? I dropped it around book three because I didn't feel like it was coming to a concluson any time soon. Plus I got really annoyed with his long drawn out descriptions of the "improvements" Merlin was proposing for their weapons, ships, etc. I think there was one part that was a 2-3 page description of cannons that could have been straight out of a historical warfare encyclopedia.
