Hi,I'm Katherine from Saratoga Springs, right down the road from you. Reading has been one of my passions forever. I lean toward historical fiction and have just finished Edward Rutherfurd's "New York".
I am a member of Goodreads Tudor History Group and decided to branch out a bit.
This sounds like a wonderful, active group. I look forward to participating.
It is a nice group Katherine, and welcome again. :)

Hello! I am Mary JL and I am a Midwesterner. As a child, I learned that cold Nebraska winter nights were tailor-made for reading! Not a big TV watcher, I have been an avid reader since the age of 5.One thing attracting me to your group is your approach of not having a certainl 'monthly' book. If I am in the middle of two or three books; I may not be able to stop and read a specific book at a specific time. Your informal approach appeals to me.
But, wow, is my TBr pile growing since I joined Goodreads.....
I will read almost anything but in order my preferences are: Science fiction, fantasy; mystery, history; histrocal fictionl and young adult books.
Work is early tomorrow, so off to bed and I will hopefuly be posting the next day. Nice to meet everyone!

I'm glad you like the idea.
Yes, my To-Read list is getting ridiculously long also. But it's nice to be able to browse it when I'm looking for a new book to read. It serves as a reminder of sorts.
Your book preferences are similar to those of many of our group's members. So I think you'll find a lot to talk about here.
We look forward to hearing from you. Please feel free to comment anywhere and also to start new topics.

I'm almost finished wit a great book The Things I know Best by Lynne Hinton. If you haven't read it yet you are missing out on a great story Lynne has an nice way of developing her characters. It's about a family of women who have the gift of knowing. The author makes it seem as though it a natural thing to be gifted with.

Publishers Weekly says: "Hinton's second book is an even more compelling and enjoyable slice of smalltown life than her bestselling debut novel, Friendship Cake: A Novel. Tessa, the 18-year-old narrator, belongs to the Ivy clan: a trailer-park-dwelling family full of strong women with unusual gifts for "knowing" things."
This Author seems to be a nice person because that book is loaded with good personality. I bet she's a person that you would enjoy talking and sipping tea with. Do you guys know of any other feel good books?

Margaret, try reading, "The Moon Flower Vine," as it might be just what you are looking for; an easy read but good writing and although a bit of a slow start keep with it and you will keep wanting to know more. nina
Hi, I'm new to good reads and would like to explore the groups. I thought I would give this one a try. I'm a 35 year old married man in Conyers, GA. Conyers is about 20 miles SE of Atlanta. I'm married and have 2 daughters. I'm a police officer for the second largest department in the state. I really love historical fiction, but I'm always on the look out for any "good read". Looking forward to meeting some of you.

Hi! My name is Veronica, 23 out of Texas. Never joined a group before and well I truly do enjoy reading and I thought maybe this could not only help pass my time, but be introduced to other genres of books rather than the same old thing for me. I read John Grisham and Mary Higgins Clark, etc. I want to broaden my horizons in reading hahahaha :) but yeah I hope this will help me out. Lookin forward to new reads!

Hi, I'm a Polish student and I conduct a small research for my M.A. thesis that aims to check which tranlstion attempts of a given historical/cultural text is more suitable for English speaking readers. For the purpose of this research I have a short (15 minute) survey providing respondents with some excerpts in two translation versions and all I need it to get to know which suits the reader more. I really need your help with that as I have to collect almost 80 copies... If anyone is willing to help me, let me know and I will provide you with either a link to the survey, mail or I will copy paste it as a message here.

We watched "Knute Rockne," tonight and what a pleasure to see an inspiring movie for a change. No violence except for the football scenes and that was relatively mild. Cheer Cheer for old Notre Dame and to all a good night.

Ronald Reagan played George Gipp in the movie. By coincidence, I've been listening to the audio version of the biography of Ronald Reagan: My Father at 100 by Ron Reagan. It's excellent.
Hello, I am living in Georgia now but spent a year recently in Plattsburgh, NY and loved it. I am thinking of starting a book club here with some of the people I work with and was just doing some research online as to which book to pick and I joined your online book club to get ideas. I just read __We Need to Talk about Kevin_. Wow what a book. Not sure its a good choice for the first book, kind of morbid but Lionel S sure knows how to show the inner life of her characters. Linda
Welcome, Linda. Nice to have you with us. Good luck. Here's the link to We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver. Yes, it looks like a very serious book.
