If she does as good a job with this as she has with the Kate Daniels series it's going to be excellent. One more sleep!
Right - finishing up writing tomorrow's review for the blog then am starting On the Edge. For one hour. I shall set the timer. I promise not to continue listening until I find out how the story ends in order to discuss it at a reasonable pace (unlike most reads I do.Hmmm... I think that's it. Oh I forgot.
I solemnly swear I am up to no good.
I love Ilona Andrew's world building - one hour in an I'm completely intrigued and fascinated by the world already. Some points I loved.
- Shoting grandpa in the first scene
- Needing a gun to go school shoe shopping
- Renee Raudman's narration.
I didn't get a chance to start it last night, so I will try to do two hours today! I'm excited to begin!
Oh my! It was super hard for me to push stop at the two hour mark, which ends up being right in the middle of a conflict. I love the world Ilona Andrews has built here. It has an interesting mix of real life and magic, sort of like Kate Daniels's world, except with different dimensions instead of magical waves. I am really intrigued by Declan, and I'm loving her whole family so far.
The narrator is phenomenal!
That's okay - I had to give last night a miss so I'm doing 2 hours today. Will post when I finish todays read.
Well I'm now four hours in and really loving it. I particularly love Rose's strength and determination. Her interactions with Declan are also amazing... Let me put it this way - it was really hard to stop reading!
I totally agree! I'm a little bit in love with Declan already. I love his arrogance, and how good he is with Rose's brothers. The bad guy so far seems extremely evil...I admit he gave me the shivers talking about how delicious they would all taste.
Five hours in now and I just want Declan to grab Rose and give her a big ol' SMOOCH. Waiting for that to happen is killing me. I love how realistic the writing is when it comes to a single woman from a poor background trying to get work/keep food on the table. Rose's joy at going grocery shopping and buying different sorts of food was brilliantly done.
Oh I know...I'm on pins and needles waiting for this kiss to happen. She is so obviously falling for him at this point. I too love how realistic it seems for a struggling single "mom" trying to take care of the kids. The narrator has me giggling with all these redneck accents she's doing. I can just picture this in one of the small towns where I'm from here in Mississippi.
OMG - who knew a kiss on the back of the neck could be so damn sexy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(yes I snuck in a little extra reading time - it was killing me!)
Oh my word, the neck kisses!! 7 hours in and it finally happened!I may sneak in some extra time as well today....doing data entry at work today and I'm dying to see what happens in this book.
I finally finished it last night! I loved it so much, and you're right about the grandmother....that wasn't a very flattering conversation to Rose, was it?I'm glad Rose had at least enough trust to try with Declan and not listen to that. I can't wait for the next book about William!
It wasn't no. I loved the way that she met Declan's mother and how overenthusiastic they all were about meeting her.

I'll be doing an audiobook read but all versions happy to be discussed.
