Matthew (masupert) | 0 comments Tor.com is partnering with B&N to create a monthly list of picks. This month they are featuring three books for $2.99 in the ebook form. The $2.99 is good on the Amazon, B&N and Kobo stores. The books are The Eye of the World, Gardens of the Moon and Mistborn: The Final Empire

Thanks for posting this link!

I just picked up 2 of the 3 books on kindle and would have gotten the third but I had already purchased it on a previous sale.

I really like that Tor is doing this type of promotion. Two of the books my family already owns in hard copy but when the price is this reasonable we will certainly repurchase books from favorite series or authors. If more publishers did deals like this regularly I would be in heaven.

Skip | 517 comments iBooks has them for the same price too.

I think book publishers are starting to learn from other on-line sales outlets. This almost feels like a Steam sale. You have to pick up the books, because for $3 each, how can you not?

This is how I'll move most my paper library to ebook. I'm not going to pay $7-14 for a book I already have; but $3, sure, I'll spend that not to have to haul a bulky novel around.

Brandon | 178 comments @Skip,
I agree I think the industry could learn alot from steam. I am happy to repurchase favorite series at $3 a book but at full $7+ no way.

My dad wants to buy some old series from the 60's one has over 30 books though by today's standard they would be short stories or novellas, but they are $5. 50 each for around 100 pages. If they would bundle them or a big sale he would probably pick them up as it is its simply to expensive.

Skip | 517 comments In many cases, those old books have left the original publisher and the rights have reverted to the author, or their estate. Many of them do not realize how easy it is to self-publish their book as an e-book. Those that do, generally offer them at less than the $5 the publishers want.

There are also books that haven't gotten published as e-books because they are almost out of contract and there isn't enough upside for the publisher to spend the money to create an e-book version. The author sees no reason to resign with the publisher when they can wait a couple of years and reap all of the benefits of the e-book. So we wait and hope.

Matthew (masupert) | 0 comments Tor.com and Black Library definitely seem to have the ebook thing down much better than other publishers.

Brandon | 178 comments Baen does a good job as well $6 an ebooks even for new releases that would cost $12. 99+ on Amazon. They also have free books on their site and with some hardback would bundle a CD with a dozen or more ebooks on it.
