for me the only one i wasn't disappointed in was the Lord of the Rings. the fact that they didnt cut too much out as well as actually using lines from the books (especially considering the intricate languages) made me an absolute fan. for others though, i could normally go from 'meh' to trembling with rage. hahaha..

although, considering i couldnt remember much about the book anyway, it could be enjoyable. :P

That seems like a great idea, after that we could all bash or praise the movie (though statistic tends to lean on 'bashing' instead of 'praising' when it comes to movie based on book).

yup, they do have some really good ones. especially Terry Pratchett's and Conan Doyle's for me. any recommendations?

Coqueline | 264 comments There are movies that actually better than the books, though. 'Everything is Illuminated' is one example.

Is it new? Never heard it before.

If the movie gets shown in Jakarta, those of us in Jakarta should meet up, don't you think? :D

Did you like I Am Number Four, Rindya? I disliked the book (though it did make me cry), and the movie really lacked chemistry between the actors. I loved the effects, but I can't with the actors.

I have the Swedish version of the movie too, haven't gotten around to finishing it. I'm really hoping the Hollywood one will be better. I mean, it's Daniel Craig. LOL.

I hate the book! :) but some part of it were better than the movie. And yes, I love the effects. To me it was not number four movie but number six. She's so cool.

I'm in! When will it be released?

I've watched the Swedish version, Blomkvist is so unattractive, it's hard to imagine all those women fall for him, but I think it'll be different when Daniel Craig is the one who portrays him, lol

Don't worry Jati, I don't like Daniel Craig :-)

Liwin Tjoa (liwintjoa) | 47 comments December 21st. Lol. I think Daniel Craig suits Blomkvist, cause Daniel's also a women's man. Well, let's hope that this movie has no trouble to be shown in Indonesia, coz u know, rape and gruesome act from the book

Is there anybody from Medan? LOL!

well if the movie couldnt make it in, we could always just rent a small private theatre for the showing. i used to do that with my friends a couple of years ago. anybody knows if those are still available in jakarta?

Coqueline | 264 comments I'm not a fan of Daniel Craig myself, he looks too much like Putin.

There's just too many middle-aged characters in the book that I doubt it will turn into a hot-bod fest. But I think Hollywood will shy away from doing many (if any) old-people-having-sex-scene. Not to sound ageist, but I'm sorry, watching people my parents'age having sex is just not a good experience.

read it and bask in the glory that is putin! or something like that..

message 73: by Coqueline (new)

Coqueline | 264 comments Wouldn't it suck if you can do all that, and somebody else who looks like you got hired to be James Bond?

Jati, that's a great idea! The private showing, I mean. I know a place, it's in Darmawangsa (I'm not sure how to spell it) and the place is called Subtitle/s. I went to watch Casablanca there a few months ago.

Yeah, so okay they do look alike, but honestly we all can tell that Daniel Craig is the finer one, hahaha. I love Daniel Craig because he's such a man man, you know what I mean? lol.

And sorry Liwin, I'm in Jakarta! Haha.

wow, i finally got an actual good idea! this calls for a victory dance! hahaha..

oh yea, i remember that place. went there a few times. it's still open? i used to go to flickers more i think. its at ke' kun cafe in kemang, for me that one was better because of the variety of food i could order from the cafe. the interior of the viewing room is pretty much the same as subtitles. i'm not sure if it's still open though..

hey, let's do that. is there any other book adaptations we haven't seen? and just in case: NO, I WILL NOT AGREE TO WATCH TWILIGHT

Breaking Dawn then? :p

There are plenty book adaptations, I watched Never Let Me Go few weeks ago and it's sad :(
Perhaps we need a new thread for this?

message 78: by Rachel, First Lady (new)

Rachel (rachelhadeli) | 698 comments Mod
Yes, we can make a new thread for this. What shall it be called, though? LOL.

Ooo I love to hate on Twilight BUT I can't lie, I'm excited for Breaking Dawn. I know the whole thing sucks, but I can't help it. Haha.

So. New thread. Movies. I'll make it now. :D

Liwin Tjoa (liwintjoa) | 47 comments same thing here, hahaha. Know it sucks but can't stop watching it.

Liwin Tjoa (liwintjoa) | 47 comments INFO: A new trailer is out. Check it out! I think David Fincher gonna nailed it, Rooney Mara also done a great job portraying Lisbeth.

i was skeptical, but i have to say it looks promising. it might be one of those rare cases where the movie turns out better than the book. i have to say though, while i can see you girls melt away under craig's manly, beautiful, and oh so penetrating gaze, i couldn't see myself getting excited over rooney mara. i guess it's one of those rare movies i'll watch for the story alone. hahaha..

However you think about the trilogy, you've gotta hand it to Larsson: this is the liveliest book discussion topic of the group to date. Haha
