I do see the light at the end of tunnel here!!! You're doing great!!!! And like andrea said- that is one ambitious list!!! Are you working on Dr. boxall's 1001 books you must read before you die"? because I see alot of titles here that are on it!

message 7: by Lisa (new)

Lisa James (sthwnd) | 259 comments Hi Joy, Yep, I'm in the 1001 group here too, so I'm working my way through the list, LOL! I'm also working my way through the various Banned/Challenged lists.

Lisa James (sthwnd) | 259 comments Just finished & reviewed The Genesis Secret, so I'm at 63! Returned both Dirk Gently & Of Love & Shadows to the library, my time was up on them & I'd already renewed them once so I couldn't keep them out any longer, I'll recheck them out again when I finish up some of the others.

Lisa James (sthwnd) | 259 comments Finished Mice & Men a couple of days ago & In Cold Blood last night :) Both very good reads!

I am also in that group! I like lists! lol...I enjoy trying to get through them! I would be further along on the list, but for some reason I keep buying books that are not on the list...dumb me! lol

Lisa James (sthwnd) | 259 comments Started Fanny Hill last night, got 75 pages into it & didn't want to put it down! Even though it is definitely erotica, it's really cute, the descriptions of "the act" are pretty funny, but I can see why it was so shocking back in 1749 when it was written, LOL. This will be a fast, fun, light read even though it's on the 1001 list. It's a refreshing break from some of the heavier lit that's on that list.

Started The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test yesterday too. This is my first Tom Wolfe book, so I was glad it started off with a really good hook about hippies in the back of a pickup truck & the girl picking off people in the crowd with a marshmallow gun while they were on their way for the journalist in the truck to get into the jail to get an interview with Ken Kesey, the author of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest while he was there on drug charges. If the rest of the book is this good, this one should be a fun read too.

Lisa James (sthwnd) | 259 comments Fanny Hill was a HOOT!!!!! Don't be intimidated by the fact that it's erotica! The story starts out sad, but her down to earth tales of her lovers, her friends, etc are SO refreshing! And it has a happy ending too :)

Wow! I will have to put Fanny Hill on my "list from THE LIST" to get to! I am going to try to read 10 or so a year from that list...so I will probably not finish the list before i die, but I will have made a good dent in it! Which list are you working from? I'm reading through the 2006 version...the list changes so much, with each new edition I thought I'd just stick with the original one. Boxall needs to change the name of his book to "The new list of 1001 books you must read before you die"...It is changing so much! =)

Lisa James (sthwnd) | 259 comments Joy,

I'm working from all 3 actually. The 1001 Goodreads group here has them all on their bookshelves, & as the lists are updated, they just add the new books that appear on the updates. Makes it a TON easier to have the whole kit & caboodle in one place. Are you in that group too?

Lisa

Lisa James (sthwnd) | 259 comments I am at 70!!!!! Woo Hoo! I'll finish Dirk Gently, even though I don't like it, I'll finish it if it KILLS me, I'm enjoying The Blind Assassin, am breezing through the cartoon book as a switch from the heavy reading, & have a bag of new ones to try to get through. So I WILL make my goal :)
