My oldest book on the TBR list (100-200 pages long) is The View from Saturday. Does this book qualify as a YA since that is listed first under the genre list?
Kathy G. wrote: "My oldest book on the TBR list (100-200 pages long) is The View from Saturday. If you are asking my opinion, it would count for this task since it is the appropriate length. (edited)
Dee wrote: "if I keep 2 TBR lists, I can I pick from either one?"TWO???
Sure, why not?
(mumbling: "I have trouble keeping up with one!")
lol...I have one that is for a certain genre because of another group...and then my main one...but I got rid of a ton of books on my main one and never updated it

Why does it have to be YA? I don't see that in the task description ... have I missed something?
what about ebook only because those have harder page counts to verify? (I only ask because looking at the word count that I have for one listed on my shelf, the count and the pages don't seem to be meshing)

Use the standard rule "If you read an electronic version of the book and an eBook page number is given on Goodreads, then use that page count.
However, if there is no page count for the electronic edition, use the page count for the mass market paperback if one exists. If there is no mass market paperback edition, use the paperback edition and if no paperback is available use the hardback edition."
If there is no print edition, it gets complicated....we'll have to look at those

Rosemary, there is no requirement for YA for this task. I incorrectly responded to Kathy G's question.(I have edited my response to remove any doubt.)
because here is my dilemma...according to my shelves Truthful Change is the first book less than 200 pages (194) - but it has 94k words as a count...which to my math, puts it over the 200 pages...so trying to figure out if I can go with that one, or one that has less of a word count, that is def. within 100-200 pages
Dee wrote: "what about ebook only because those have harder page counts to verify? Any form of a book (hard copy, audio (See #8 below) or e- book) is acceptable unless otherwise stated in a specific task."
The task has no specific requirement for format of the book...only pages.
Perhaps you can check in e-book verification

You can use the GR pages if you read the ebook edition that shows that page count

My dilemma is availability...I have my TBR sorted into four groups (general to-read someday, TBR on-hand, TBR ordered, TBR @ the digital library~OK, so I'm weird, but need to keep track somehow!) Anyway...I went through all of them, and I can't get THE oldest book fitting the page length requirement (Too expensive~which is why it's still on my TBR~ and would ship in about 8 to twelve weeks...not sure I'd get it before the challenge is over...).
So, not sure if I should give up on this category, or if we can use something like one of the 10 oldest, or the oldest we can actually get... I'm still scouting to see if I can get the second oldest, but it's not looking good...
What do you think?
Great task Bea.I am glad that I am not the only one who rewards themselves with a short book after reading a BIG BOOK.
This give me a good reason to read Animal Farm this season. Now I just have to go fish it out of the attic.
Hmmm...I've just used that "to-read" originally "provided" by GR as that. If it's OK to just use my shelves of books that I have shuffled of things I own/can actually get to read, then I'm OK for this task.

Judithe, if the oldest 100-200 page book on your TBR is not available to you, it is OK to move to the next book which qualifies.
Rosemary wrote: I call my 'general to-read someday' a wishlist rather than TBR..."Actually, Rosemary, I was referring to the GR To-Read list.

Hettie, I am glad that you like the task. Enjoy Animal Farm; it is on my someday to read list.

Yes, me too! I meant all of the books on my GR To-Read list are books I actually have in the house :-)
I have deleted my previous comment in case it was confusing.
Rosemary wrote: "Yes, me too! I meant all of the books o..."LOL. Well, Rosemary, I am in process of putting my home books on the TBR list, but mine also has books I have seen others read that look interesting to me.
What I do, if I do not own the book, is check the online library catalog which shows me not only my local library but others in the same system. If I can find it there, it's a go. If not, I have to skip it as there is no money right now to buy. So far I haven't made much use of the GR bookswap or paperbackbookswap.com sites, but they are a possibility if I cannot find it at home or in the library.
This is turning out to be more difficult than it looks!I don't have much of a TBR list - when I get a book I read it very soon! My to-read list consists of the books I'm getting together ready for this challenge, and a few newly published that I know I want to buy but I'm waiting for the paperback edition.
So I will have to choose from a friend's list.
I'm just not clear - does it have to be the oldest book of qualifying length on their list,(as it would have to be if I read one from my own TBR list) or can it be any book of the right length?

Wendy, if you are using a GR friend's TBR, you can choose any book on it that fits the required pages.
That will allow others using the same list to perhaps choose a different book than you would choose from the same friend.
Wow, I really need to add some short books to my TBR. I had to scroll down about 60 books to find one under 200 pages.
Beth NC wrote: "Wow, I really need to add some short books to my TBR. I had to scroll down about 60 books to find one under 200 pages."LOL! I am glad that you found one anyway.
I just noticed that my page count for Lord of the Flies is 208 pgs. Can I still use it? It is definitely the oldest and shortest book on my to read list. I tend to read 300-500 pg books and rarely have books that are less than 200 pages.

I love the Seasonal Reading Challenge, because it causes me to stretch my reading muscles. One of the ways it has done this is by challenging me to get BIG BOOK tickets. (Big books have always intimidated me.) Imagine my pleasure at completing a book of 821 pages!
And, one of the nicest rewards for completing a BIG BOOK is to pick up a short, quick read ~ almost like eating a piece of fresh fruit after a large meal cleanses the palate.
So, for this challenge, you will read ONE book.
Sort your TBR shelf by date added. Find the oldest book which is between 100-200 pages and read it for this task.
If you do not have a qualifying book on your TBR list, choose a GR friend and select a 100-200 page book on his/her TBR list. Note: The friend’s name must show on your list of friends.
Required: note whether you used your own TBR or a friend's (include name) shelf when you post
