kate (katelucia) I'm feeling it. We have sooo much in common.

I think ever since I stopped moving around (I grew up an army brat) I have felt lost and like I don't belong unless I keep moving. I've always loved books and I've always wanted to be someplace new. But europe did it for me, completely. I loved the people, I loved the atmosphere, I loved the history!!, I loved everything except the price $$.

Since I have a chronic disease (lupus) I also really believe in health care. I've seen far too many children in hospitals to not believe in better health care. Europe takes care of everyone, it's soo nice to think about.

I try to time and align my books with whatever mode I'm in at the moment. Where do I want to go? What do I want to feel? How do I want to think and learn? What do I want to be immersed in? It's so fascinating to me.

Those are essentially all the same reasons why I love Europe! I absolutely love the shopping too. :)

I'm with you on the health care thing. It's an important issue for sure. (btw..im not too knowledgeable about Lupus..what exactly is it..and are you doing well? )) that is..if you don't mind talking about it.

I also pick books based on how I'm feeling. I think that's why I picked Twilight for right now. I'm sick of the real world & my stringent schedule. I want to read about something that isn't real.

message 53: by kate (new)

kate (katelucia) Twilight's pretty good about taking you somewhere else entirely! ;)

And I LOVE the shopping too. Even the grocery shopping, haha.

Lupus just makes it hard for your body to tell what's you and what's an infection. Sometimes things go awry your own immune system attacks you. I'm fine these days. A few years ago when I first got diagnosed it was bad. I missed an entire year of school (but still graduated on time. ^^!!)

I was "too small" to go to the adult hospital at 16 so they sent me to a children's one. I lost a few friends that were far too young to go. so health care especially for children just holds a very special place in my heart. I was lucky to have great health care- others aren't and it's so unfair.

Wow..that is incredible that you were able to still graduate on time. I'm glad to hear that you are doing well.

That just saddens me so much when I hear about young children fighting a disease/illness and passing away. I think I am just ultra sensitive to somebody struggling with a disease..just because of everything with my mom. Similarly, I have a place in my heart for children with autism..I worked with an autistic boy for about 5 years..and he just makes me so happy..yet I am so saddened that there is no cure for autism yet..and that many of these children get institutionalized..i fear for Colin(the little boy I worked with) because he is so severe and at 10 is already a handful to take care of. Lucky for him, he has a family who has the means to provide him with a great school, extra help, and all of the other medicines and extra stuff he needs to make progress.

message 55: by kate (new)

kate (katelucia) Tragic and so so so inspiring.

message 56: by Janet (new)

Janet I wish all the time I could quit. I really don't think it would work out in my favor but it would be interesting to see. I read for that exact reason. So get away from it all be live in someone else's life! Sometimes it's just so nice!

i CANNOT believe this..it has been SNOWING all day. ridiculous! it is October 28th..it NEVER snows before halloween..well rarely ever. I might has well get the christmas music out!

its sooo nasty though. its a very wet snow and now the roads are all icy and slushy. yuck. but i've curled up with Twilight all day..despite the fact that I have more homework to do than I have time for. oh well..reading is better..much much better.

message 60: by Heather (new)

Heather (andshewontsleep) ugh i think we are getting that snow in MA tonight & tomorrow. i'm not looking forward to it!

We get snow about once a year, and it melts as soon as it stops, that is if it settles at all. That is too much snow for me.

I live for summer, and heat!

message 62: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) Oh, I am SO jealous!! I miss the winter so badly! I've lived in California for three years, but there is no winter here. Especially not like back home in Minnesota. I love curling up with a good book when it's snowing outside. I hate the heat. =(

message 63: by Janet (new)

Janet Kels- I am so glad there is someone else out there like me! So many people think I am crazy for loving the snow, but I LOVE it! It's just nice and something different from being in heat! I don't think I could ever live in a state where is doesn't snow! I like different seasons! Haha.

i like different seasons..but I am miserable when it's cold..i wish there could be snow...but that i could be warm..haha..if that makes any sense?

message 65: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
Give me a hot day any day. When I got my car, the salesman was thinking I was crazy. I got a black car and heated seats. We live through 100+ degree weather for around 3 months in the summer, sometimes more. I love it!

A year and a half ago, three of us girls from work went on a cruise out of Florida after tax season. They all told me how miserably hot and sticky everything would be. I wore a light jacket most of the time. :) My friends say I am cold blooded like a snake. I need the sun to be warm.

message 68: by kate (new)

kate (katelucia) I need a tropical environment. For sure. Snow is pretty to look at, but I'm sick of being cold for half the year. Stupid Indiana.

Did anyone else do anything fun this weekend??

I had such a perfect Fall weekend..Halloween on Friday..lounged around/babysat with my bf on Saturday and then today was AMAZING. my boyfriend and I went on a date to Peddlar's Village..its this really cute place with amazing restaurants and little shops. They always do annual events for holidays..like gingerbread house contests..strawberry festival..and APPLE FESTIVAL! that's what we went to..it was incredibly busy..but amazing..we waited forever to get into a restaurant and then we walked around the different stores and stands..and i got some homemade applesauce & apple butter! I was so excited!

as much as i hate the cold..i LOVE fall. its the best.

message 70: by Jen (new)

Jen | 111 comments aww I love peddlers but I havent been in a while. My friends keep talking about going and then we never make it. Friday was awesomme. I took the day off and went to the Phillies parade. Friday night I dressed up as a witch, ordered pizza and watch scream 2 with some friends. Last night we drove to eastern state penitentuary but they were only selling tickets for the midnight one and we didnt feel like waiting so we just drove around for a while.

message 71: by Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner), The Founding Bookworm (new)

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
ooh my boyfriend went to the parade! he said it was crazy..he ended up getting into the stadium which pretty cool apparently. i wish i could have gone! dumb presentation. haha. The Scream movies are the best Halloween movies to watch! and that's too bad that you didn't end up going to eastern state. that would have been fun. although sometimes driving around can be pretty freakin fun too!

message 72: by Janet (new)

Janet I had a pretty decent weekend. Went to a party on Friday night, which was a BLAST! It's really the top party of the year!! My boyfriend dressed up as a hunter and I dressed up as a deer. It was fun! Saturday we went to my little sister's soccer game, they lost and it's hard because she's the goalie, so she takes it pretty hard! Then we watched The Shinning on Saturday night! I LOVE that movie!! Then today sucked because the Broncos lost, again! Ugh!! Driving me crazy!! But it was a pretty good weekend overall!
Sounds like everyone else had GREAT weekends!! I love nice fall weekends!!

aww Janet that sounds like a fun weekend! minus your team losing to my team! i hate when that happens..i'm used to that with my team (the dolphins..last year they sucked it up)..but my eagles won today!! woohoo! finally!

i think that's another thing i love about fall..FOOTBALL!

message 74: by Janet (new)

Janet Jaime, I LOVE football!! I can't get enough of it!! It is going to give me a heart attach someday though because I get so stressed about it!! Haha. And the Dolphins did suck last season. Sorry about that, guess you need to win some now! :)

message 75: by Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner), The Founding Bookworm (new)

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
haha its true..
my mom is from Florda..so I have been a Gators and Dolphins fan since I was in the womb basically..i loved the Dolphins back in the day of Dan marino..my mom was obsessed with him..she would always like joke when the games were on and be like..umm girls..there's your father on tv..and stupid stuff like that. someone she knew actually knew him and got her an autograph! damn. i'm going to find that..i'd rather like to have that.

message 76: by Janet (new)

Janet Yeah, I am the same but with the Broncos. My whole family was basically born and raised in Colorado. My grandma used to have season tickets back in the day of Elway and she has a ton of memorablia (Sp?). No matter where I end up, they will always be my #1 team!!! :)

message 77: by kate (new)

kate (katelucia) I am going crazy. I can't stop making lists of baby names!! I'm not in any way planning to have a baby anytime soon...but I still can't help it.

omg kate..the other day in my brit lit class..i started coming up with my children's names. hahah.. i was so bored because the prof is horrible..so i thought it was a good way to spend my time..

my favorites so far:

Piper Arabella
Sienna Cadence
Taylor Bryten

i didn't even get to boy names. haha.

message 79: by kate (new)

kate (katelucia) Ahh! I really like those! And I also come up with most of mine during horrendously boring classes.

Some of mine...
Inara Jean
Lucia Gisele
Zooey Adeline
Sophia Grace
Riley Jean
Elena Clare
Isabella Clare
Imogen Reese

There are over fifty. And a lot of them reuse certain parts and I just re-arrange them to see how I like it.

message 80: by Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner), The Founding Bookworm (new)

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
haha that's exactly what i did with a bunch..reuse and rearrange!

I LOVE all of those names. I'm all about unique but not bizarre names. I really really like Riley Jean..I think mostly because my sister and i used to be obsessed with Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen and one of their characters on their movies was named Riley. haha. random.

message 81: by kate (new)

kate (katelucia) HAHA. my sister and I were too! And I think in that movie, it was the london one I remember, their names were riley and chloe. chloe also shows up on my list. they always picked really cool names.

I want to include Riley not just cause it's a really cool name, but also because Riley Children's Hospital is such an amazing place to me.

message 82: by Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner), The Founding Bookworm (new)

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
ahh yeah..it was that one! and then i think they used those names for their tv show too. haha i'm such a dork! :)

that's really awesome that you incorporated something so special into a name that you might one day name a child.

message 83: by kate (new)

kate (katelucia) Haha! So Little Time!

Their storylines might have been reallllly cheesy. But they had cool fashion and great soundtracks.

message 87: by April (new)

April | 39 comments Well I went to my 9:30 class today to take a test, then as I was leaving to go to my next class my mom called my cell and wanted to know if I would be up for a day of shopping since she was in town. Sooo....you don't have to ask me twice to skip classes! We ended up going to the Thrift Store, lunch, and the Library sale! Omg I love those places :o) I got LOTS of books and I also found a like new Vera Bradley purse for $1.98...I was soooo stoked! My day was nice :o)

message 88: by Janet (new)

Janet Haha I love it! You guys are so fun!! Haha. I love getting my hair cut. I haven't in forever because the place I go is down where my mom lives is and too far. The lady that usually cuts my hair died in a car crash in early August, too, so I have had a really hard time going back. But my hair is bugging me so much right now that I almost want to cut it myself!! Does anyone else get that way? Haha!!

message 89: by Janet (new)

Janet Oh and have to mention that the Broncos won Thursday night football tonight!! Sorry I am way excited because we have not been doing well lately!! WOO HOO!

April..that sounds like an AMAZING day!! :)

Janet..that's horrible about your hairdresser..i feel like i'm so close with mine..she is 30 and real hip and cute..i think i would have a hard time like you..and i am DEF with you on wanting to cut my own hair sometimes when its bugging me..but I always resist..because i KNOW it would be a disaster! and..GO BRONCOS! :)

message 91: by kate (new)

kate (katelucia) I love my hairdresser. We actually met over MySpace and she's my age and reallllly awesome. Not just style and coolness but def. at hair cutting. My mom and sister now won't go anywhere else!

Mine was pretty much the most boring weekend in a while. I had the whole house to myself and I had to do homework 99% of the time. blahh. hopefully others had more exciting weekends!

message 94: by Janet (new)

Janet I saw Role Models. It was so freaking funny!! I laughed so hard!! That's about all I did. I should have done homework but that didn't happen. I also have a really bad cold but that's really no excuse! Haha.
