See what I read about the situation, was that she was giving credit to everyone at first, but then she started a guessing game with the other authors. To see who can guess what quotes came from what books/shows.
Her and some of the other Authors did not think it was a big deal, because it was fanfic. She wasn't getting paid for it, and the fans loved it.
I posted in a similar discussion a while back. I don't think it matters at all. It was for the fans, she wasn't making any money from it

I didn't care actually. I still don't like fanfic. Sorry for fanfic lovers, but I consider them trash. The only things that annoyed me were bits of similarities between HP and TMI (said it before). What I care is that I love reading the series and I will keep doing it until I get bored of shadowhunter world... :)

You 'attacked' Sophie without even bothered to read her previous comments. She was not even trying to bad-mouth Cassandra Clare. She served others with what she had in her hands. You just 'jumped at her' as if you were Cassie's only fans. You are not! We love Cassie and we love talking about her books, or characters in her books, fangirling over them.
We also got haters from time to time, but we did not curse them the way you did in your comments. Did you ever think that is what Cassandra Clare wants from her fans? Someone who curses?

Well, you are allowed to post your opinion and ethics, but do not put down the fans of Cassie for reasons like not having proof. We will make of what we have, and you may deduct your private opinion from information provided.Also, on the note the Nurlely made, I did not really appreciate being bad-mouthed and insulted for trying to answer a question. That's how the world works though - People ask questions, others answer, people disagree, people agree and eventually everyone reaches an impasse.
But you're right - I never believe anything with out proof. Ghosts, for instance (lol). But although the evidence that was given might not be enough for you, I accepted it, and that's my choice.

As for proof or no proof, articles on internet didn't just popped up from dust. They are made to serve the audiences information. Even if they are valid and come from the author her/himself, they can also remove the articles and thus make them invalid. Even Cassie (or her team) did that in the past.
I have read all the Harry Potter books at least five times each, and I really saw zero similarities I think people are just raising a fuss about something that isn't there

That credit was added later, after it had been pointed out. it specifically mentions that in the article, And that wasn't even the book it was lifted from. it was lifted from The Hidden Land.
As for the game, that has nothing to do with the plagiarism. Fandom knew about the game and didn't mind it. Those were small funny quotes from various TV series and what not, and they have nothing to do with the plagiarism that she got in trouble for. The plagiarism is actually from long passages she took from a book and never credited until after she had been caught.

I hold fairly high standards for young adult books because I dislike the very low standards they are typically held to. I judge the book by the same criteria I judge adult books, and I found them lacking. I didn't even enjoy reading them because I felt they were cliche, and the characters and their interactions bored me. Over all, it just wasn't good in my opinion.
I feel like she's reusing a formula over and over again, when I know she's creative and is capable of much more. I have high hopes for her, I just wish she's branch out a bit more.
Wow, never knew about her fanfiction. My kids and I really liked this series, and while we found it a mix of the Poter series, and the Twilight series, never noticed the character similarities. Maybe I will have to re-read the series and see if find the similarities.

Draco in HP is not a very smart ass (pardon my language), nor he is snarky. Draco underestimates other wizards and loath half-blood and muggles. He maybe is handsome, but he also has bad behaviour. She didn't want to write City of Heavenly Fire before, and just wanted to write something about Simon. Her fans 'begged' her to write more.
I think as much similarities we can find between The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices, the later series is much better written, for her writing skill has improved since her City of Bones.
But I think each reader is free to like or dislike a book, as we probably agree to disagree about Cassie's TMI series.
Do we want to have a legitimate online debate (Moderator, audience, two cheif debators) and settle this once and for all? I think that would be interesting.
That would be fun! I love debates, but only when they're civilised - we'd have to sort out teams...

If you can find two people I can organize it. Perhaps have one side send their argument to me and then I can relay the argument to the other side and so on so forth. This will allow me to build a transcript and will also prevent raging from outside sources.
Is there anyway to open up a private discussion? Like, invite particular people and than everyone else can't comment?
Because that way we could prevent an online war :)

Well, it'll be private, but that's mostly just to keep out known trolls. I'll get a team of moderators together, but our screening process will be VERY lenient. Essentially, anyone who legitimately wants to get in will get in.

Since it is fan fiction, does it really matter as much? I would only get as fired up as some people are if it was in the actual published TMI.
*I am not aiming to offend, rebuke or argue with anyone. This was purely me stating my thoughts.
