Can't remember the name of these books! Fantasy trilogy

When I was younger I remember reading this great trilogy that contained many great elements:
Alternate Universes(one world very much like present day and another Medieval world)
An underground maze
magic
I am quite certain one of the books had the word "gun" in the title.

I lost these books at my parents house several years ago and would appreciate any help locating the titles! I know it's not much to go by but there must be someone out there who remembers!

Chris it was The Changeling Saga by Peter Garison. Great reads, I will definitely be purchasing them!

His Dark Materials by Pullman? The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, and the Amber Spyglass are the three books in that trilogy. It certainly contains alternate universes.

My guess would be the Chronicles of Amber by Roger Zelazny. The way to move between worlds was to walk a pattern on the floor.

Rogue Maybe it was the Septimus Heap series? Those are younger books though, so probably not.
