Carol Carr | 4 comments I'm curious to know what the group thinks about this topic. I'm doing a book signing in October for "India Black and the Widow of Windsor" at Murder by the Book in Houston, Texas. During my first signings, I talked about some of the usual topics - how I did research, created the characters, etc. Now I'm pondering what to discuss for the second book. What do you like to hear authors talk about at signings? The publishing process? Writing habits? Characters? All suggestions welcome!

@Carol and Jill - Great questions and great answers!

Kelly_Instalove (instalove) | 11 comments Hi, Carol - India is next on my TBR list, I can't wait to read it!

Here's what I would love to hear about:

- Series vs stand-alone - Did you know India would become a series? Do you write differently when there's that expectation? Do you have the entire series all planned out already, or does each book evolve on its own?

- Mystery plots - What are your secrets for maintaining a lively plot that doesn't veer off into parts unknown? I would think a historical mystery, with a female hero no less, would be even more difficult with all the social and cultural constraints. And balancing the romantic element too, yikes!

- Writing process - Morning or night? Long sessions or short bursts? How often do you wake up in the middle of the night with new ideas? What does your writing space look like?

- Historical research process - How in the world do you anticipate all the details that might crop up while you're writing??? Do you get nit-pickers sniping at you, and how do you respond? How do you react when you spot inaccuracies or anachronisms in other people's work?

- And my favorite "fluff" question: Who would you cast in the movie version? :-)

Emery, I'd love to hear your answers too!

Carol Carr | 4 comments Jill and Kelly,

Thanks for your responses - they are exactly what I'd hoped to get when I asked the question. Very detailed and wide-ranging. This will also be helpful when writing guest posts for bloggers, since many of them leave the topic to me. Now I have some great ideas!

Hi Kelly! Thanks so much for asking! As a courtesy to others so I don't monopolize this group- I will very happily answer your questions on my author Q&A page.
