Shackleton and my party in South were there just after Gaeta1 and their party. I came across some references to Scott and Cherry-Garrard in my book.

In all the part of South Africa that is South Africa, I guess. Plus the part that has Solomon's mines and a utopian paradise hidden in it.

I climb mountains (well, the ones we have in the UK) with my climbing buddy for the sole purpose of having a cup of tea on the summit. I also kayak out to islands to stop for a cup of tea on the shore. We plan our trails around tea-breaks, getting back in time to go to the cafe and so on. It sounds like our kind of book.

I will be arriving in the Antarctic, missing Gaeta1 and Jessamy by an iceberg, I presume. I will be cracking open the book Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage as soon as I turn off my computer.

Hi Cathy and Welcome! Looks like you're off to a great start. Enjoy your journey.

Isn't anyone but me just putting a whole bunch into a list for next year's around the world? It is the only way I can feel sane and not deprived at the same time....

I hope to read as many as I can this year. I don't think I would have much time in the next couple of years, doing my Ph.D., establishing my career etc..

Ha ha, I can imagine them waving at each other from their icebergs. Funny view, LOL.

My mother always told me that " you can't sit with one tuchus at two weddings" but, with armchair travel you sure can.
Anyone else know that saying?

Ha! My mother was German too!

My mother always told me that " you can't sit with one tuchus at two weddings" but, with armchair trave..."
My mother used to say "With one tuchus, you can't dance at two weddings." My family is of Jewish heritage and my mother spoke Yiddish which is a German/Hebrew creole.

My mother used the "dance at two weddings" alternative as well. We are also Jewish, but my mother didn't speak Yiddish. But these phrases crept into the German language.

Finally, finally moving on to Australia with Remembering Babylon!

I love this!

Ooh, tough journey, Diane.

I know how you feel, Angela. I'm currently in Greece reading The Magus, but it's my book club book and not on my list for this challenge. I'm also reading Sightseeing, which has me in Thailand, simultaneously. I keep feeling to pulled to add the other books I'm reading to my list, but then I'd be duplicating countries...

Suzanne, I was thinking the same thing or swapping out the books. That way I will read get through at least 52 books. We will see as we get further into the year.

Don't laugh but I tried this past summer and I can barely remember how to string together a sentence. I always want to answer the teacher in German and often combined the two and created Spagerman.

Gaeta, I am jealous! I would like to read The Bone People too, but it isn't available.

Suzanne, how is Sightseeing going? Mikki and I both have it on our lists."
Judy, I'm in Australia now and might go straight to Vietnam next and then into Thailand, so I'll probably start Sightseeing at the end of next week...maybe.

I won't let The Famished Road beat me!

Ah, very adventurous!!

Ah, very adventurous!!"
Very adventurous. She's going to China to get married (don't know why yet) and all sorts of adventures await her (and me).

Hmm.. sounds intriguing. Looking forward to your review.

She may wonder after she gets married. Nah! Just kidding."
HA ha. Good point, Judy!

Ooh, Enjoy Chrissie. I seem to remember Jenny giving this five stars!

lol! Yes, that would probably be a bit much.

hahahaha!!
