MadgeUK The 'confidence' of the confessional should be done away with altogether, not just for child abuse. Many criminals have sheltered under its protection - it is just another outdated religious 'privilege'.

Cora Judd (corajudd) | 163 comments Yay for the Irish! Is it just me or has anyone else been utterly baffled by the ability of the Catholics to ignore the laws of every land? How is that possible??

MadgeUK The new Irish Premier was very brave to take up this idea, given how catholic the southern Irish are. Kudos!

It is possible because for centuries catholics have put the laws issued by a Pope from The Vatican as superseding their own country's laws. This was one of the reasons that Henry VIII, encouraged by the proto-Lutheran Ann Boleyn, broke away from the catholic church and established The Church of England. It was not just that he wanted a divorce, it was because, as a religious scholar, he had come to believe that the Pope and a catholic church based in Italy, was a threat to the prosperity of England. The prosperity of Great Britain and the Empire it forged outside of the Vatican's influence, largely dates from this time.

Cora Judd (corajudd) | 163 comments I didn't know that - thank you. I always thought KH8 was just lusty :)
But in the US, the Cardinals from LA (Cardinal Mahoney of L.A. is proof there is no just God) and Boston and, I think, Chicago, have effortlessly kept pedo-priests fully protected from exposure. What I want to know is: why do the police and FBI not serve subpoenas and warrants like they do for every other criminal? I have never gotten a good answer to this question.
