Need Help Recalling a Book I Once Read

Hi, everyone! I am new to the group, but I have been reading the threads and I love this community. I was hoping that the collective wisdom would help me identify a book I once read and cannot get out of my head. I want to re-read it find out if it is as good as I recall. :)

First off, the book is NOT LaVerne Spencer's "The Endearment." I thought it might be, so I downloaded a copy of "The Endearment" on Kindle. While "The Endearment" is a GREAT book, it is not the one I remember.

The one I remember also has a Nordic (Swedish?) hero, and it involves a marriage of convenience. The hero is married to a young girl but does not consummate the relationship until the end of the novel, as I recall. He teaches her a phrase in his native tongue that means "I love you," but won't translate it for her. He is charmed by the fact that she repeats it to him without knowing what it means.

The book is set in the 1800s American West. There is a "whore with a heart of gold" character who advises both the hero and heroine. I hope this helps someone help me! :)

I would appreciate any help with this, or any suggestions about books similar to this. I really enjoyed "The Endearment," which I found looking for my mystery book. Who knows-- maybe I will find another one I love!

I know LaVerne Spencer's books are very sweet love stories, far away from bodice ripper romance. I have not encountered a book of your description. As far as bodice ripper type books for Norse I can recommend

Does anyone remember an historical romance years back--probably mid to late 80's-- about a hero and heroine trapped in the hurricane in Galveston, TX? I can't recall the title. I know I liked it a lot.

I don't see it there. The more I think about it, the more I believe the book had the word "Galveston" in the title. I wish I hadn't given away all my BR's so long ago--Ugh!
