Mo | 43 comments I read this book a couple of months ago because I hadn't read any Balzac. I enjoyed it much more than I thought I woul. I loved reading all of your insightful comments!

Magda Allani | 25 comments Well Balzac is a master of getting under the skin to expose the human psyche with great wit. - I loved Eugenie Grandet (her dad, the miserly self-made millionaire who still kept the larder locked)and a briefer but still haunting read is Le Colonel Chabert about a situation where a death certificate counts for more than its owner who is actually alive - bureaucracy gone mad! - There's an echo of that - albeit more fortuitous - in Shawshank Redemption!

Mo | 43 comments I'm trusting you here...just ordered Eugenie!

I have a feeling that any of his books will be an enjoyable read. He has such a wonderful way of telling a story. Are you two up for reading another one next year sometime?

message 55: by Mo (new)

Mo | 43 comments Sure, I'm always up for a good book! Just tell me when. My schedule is fairly open right now.

Anne (reachannereach) When did you start this buddy read and when does it finish? I'm wondering if I still have time to catch up with you?
Oh, I just read that this finishes Oct. 31. Is that still correct?

Yes, but the lines get fudged on buddy reads. I just put that date because I needed to add an ending, it can go until whenever. You have plenty of time. the discussion can go on for how ever long we keep it going! There is no hurry!

message 61: by Anne (new)

Anne (reachannereach) Thank you, Lisa. Have most people finished the book? Started the book? Just wondering how much catching up I have to do.

Vicky started it, but I haven't heard from her in awhile and then Zuzana finished it, Mo read it a few months back, Daybrook just started it and you. That is all that I know of right now. We will keep the thread open forever, so don't worry that the thread will stop. Please don't feel rushed at all, it is a fun book to enjoy and savor!

message 63: by Anne (new)

Anne (reachannereach) Okay, thank you Lisa. I'll start it soonish then.

I saw this today while browsing the book giveaways, thought that it sounded interesting! Maybe, one of you will enter also and actually win it, I have terrible luck winning any books on here!
