Ally McCulloch (allymcculloch) This project is fun, but since it actually involves reading, it's a tad unrealistic. :'(

message 52: by Ally (new)

Ally McCulloch (allymcculloch) Yeah, totally. I think I'm going to focus on American and French books with the odd German book thrown in there. I need to focus on philosophy books and ones about female directors in silent cinema. It is my current obsession and the topic of my dissertation and I can't really dilly dally and read books by Kenyan authors.

Genia Lukin God, I could probably build a lifetime reading curriculum just out of "these books they had me read in class"...

Oh I loved Man in the Dark,
The Invention of Solitude and Moon Palace. I really didn't like Invisible though :-/

I really like Murakami as well, but I've decided that I cannot read 1Q84 befor I've read [book:The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle|11275] - do you read A.S. Byatt too?

Louise, i think ur talkin to Ally (which is sad) but you should read 1Q84 right away, i didnt think much of WindUp but i am looooooving 1Q84 right now"

Sad? Why?? :-)
I think i have 4-5 of his books around I haven't read yet - I got the edition of 1Q84 with book 1 & 2 in one volume.

message 56: by Ally (new)

Ally McCulloch (allymcculloch) Louise you like/dislike the opposite Paul Austers I like/dislike, but that's okay. Also, I tried reading A.S. Byatt once. It was great, but too long.

And Barry, well, I just checked out HAMMER!: Making Movies Out of Sex and Life by Barbara Hammer from the library. I was supposed to have read it already. But you can check out which books I'm required to read at the following bookshelf:
egs-syllabus
You can check out which books were recommended during class but not required at the following bookshelf::
egs-recommended
and you can check books that might have been written by the teachers at my school or books ppl reference so I want to read them so I won't feel like a dummy at the following bookshelf:
egs-related

Then I had like 500 or 600 books on EGS and my ex/current boyfriend said he had 1,500 books in his living room, so I added a bunch of books related to philosophy and pretty much added a thousand or so books that looked interesting, so my virtual bookshelf would look bigger.

So there you have it. I haven't cracked open Of Grammatology yet. I'm scared. Help me.

Barry thinks it's sad you're talking to me, because I am like a crazy person. I'm not. But I don't accept the status quo. So maybe he thinks I'll scare you away from this place. But I haven't scared Barry away yet, so why does he think you'll be scared? I don't really know. I guess you'll have to come to your own conclusions. I'm just trying to be on my best behavior, so I won't get kicked off the site like the one I met Barry at, you know?

message 58: by Louise (new)

Louise | 120 comments I don't scare easily when it comes to crazy people - I'm married to a guy I met at a roleplaying convention, ok?
:-)

Yeah, I don't know what he is to me or what he will be. It's kinda of "up in the air" right now, in Jason-Reitman-douchey kind of way.

Louise, awesome. You and I will get along just fine.
