However, that ISBN on Goodreads shows a different cover:

but using Amazon, look inside, it does have blue endpapers

There is another edition on Goodreads that does not have an ISBN that seems similar and may be the same book as my first link on abebooks (i.e., an alternate cover edition with no cover.)

I can't say for sure if any of these are the right book though. :(
Well, I pulled out my copy of A Treasury of Sherlock Holmes. My particular issue is one of the "newer" issues (1980's or so) but you might try looking for this. Its one of the "special edition" type books, and the original (1950's era) one might be what you are looking for. It does have the blue front pages, thin paper for the actual story (and is 686 pgs. long) but does NOT have the fake signature. It also only has 2 of the books and I believe its 27 of the short stories. So it might not be the correct one. My copy does NOT have an ISBN number, just a Library of Congress number, which is 55-5930. Don't know if that helps or not, but its another option. Oh, and my copy is dk blue, not black. I also don't have a dust jacket for it, so that's no help either. Sorry

"The Complete Sherlock Holmes" isbn 088029261x
It's all the Sherlock Holmes stories, and all the novels. Under the dust jacket (which is brown and has Holmes' head in profile) is a black cover with a gold Doyle signature.
1122 pages.
Preface by Christopher Moreley.
If that's not it, you might try Doubleday publishers in general-- since they did use the signature on the front.
A very, very belated thank you to everyone who helped - I investigated all the responses and ended up purchasing one (though unfortunately I don't remember which). She was very happy to receive a replacement. :)
My friend lent me her complete Sherlock Holmes collection and guess what - I lost it. I'm looking for a replacement, but I don't know what the edition was called. It's a thick hardback book - I unfortunately never saw the actual cover, but underneath it's black - and on the inner cover it has blue paper and a fake "A. Conan Doyle" signature. The pages are tissue thin.
Again, I'm really sorry if this doesn't exactly belong here but I hope the moderators will allow it to stay because if anybody can tell me what edition this was I will be forever indebted to them!
