Liz M Summer is almost over & it’s time to get serious about reading. To help you transition out of “beach-reading” mode, we’re assigning the subjects and you are selecting the reading materials.

15.1 – Math
15.2 – Science
15.3 – Literature (your country)
15.4 – World Literature
15.5 – History, Government, Philosophy, Religion
15.6 – Psychology, Economics, Sociology, Anthropology
15.7 – Foreign Languages
15.8 – Art, Music, Dance
15.9 – Gym, Health
15.10 – Study Hall

Books for tasks 15.1-15.9 can be fiction or non-fiction, as long as there is an obvious connection between the subject of the book & the task. For example, Music: read a biography of a musician (Mozart by Peter Gay), a non-fiction book about music (The Rest Is Noise by Alex Ross), or a book with a musician as a main character (A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan).
For tasks 15.3-15.4 books should be "literature" as opposed to "popular fiction", in other words, something that might commonly taught in high school or university.
For task 15.7 - Foreign Languages you could read a translated work (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), a book about foreign languages (Through the Language Glass: Why the World Looks Different in Other Languages), or a biography about a foreign writer (Anaïs Nin: A Biography).
For task 15.10 - Study Hall, read a non-fiction book about a subject you would like to learn more about.

All ten "BtS" tasks must be completed before repeating a task. The tasks can be completed in any order.

You cannot claim regular style points for any book you read for Back-to-School (nor do the BtS categories count as Combo style points for regular Reading with Style tasks).

Liz M Scoring:

Each task is worth 15 points; however, you can receive bonus points in three different ways:
A) Read a book written published prior to 1980, receive 5 bonus points.
B) Read a book with more than 500 pages, receive 5 bonus points.
C) Read a non-fiction book, receive 5 bonus points.

A bonus of 150 points will be rewarded for anyone who completes all of the "Back-to-School" tasks.
