It's in the help file http://www.goodreads.com/help#find_books
Edit: search by ISBN or AISN first as that will auto import the book if on amazon or barnes and Nobel
Basically from the search page click add new edition link
I hope that someone might be able to help, but I`m trying to enter a book that I just started reading manually with the isbn number 2-9805235-0-X and I get an error message informing me that a book with that same ISBN no. already exists and to contact the Goodreads Librarians group. The title is Le Canada Sur Le Pouce by Sylvain Pigeon.
Jamie, I left a note in the "please delete this book" thread for a super to take a look at this. Worldcat agrees with you on the ISBN.
Genêts : Dans le temps et dans l'histoire is a valid book...I can find it on worldcat by title, but it shows no isbn. Interesting that the second author on it is also a Pigeon...no pun intended. I'm wondering if they are somehow related...or if it's a coincidence, and a reused isbn. I'd hate to delete the book, since it is a valid title, with no other versions. My guess is it's a reused isbn.
Beth wrote: "Genêts : Dans le temps et dans l'histoire is a valid book...I can find it on worldcat by title, but it shows no isbn. Interesting that the second author on it is also a Pigeon...no ..."Maybe I typed the title wrong. I did add it to the deletion thread for further research.
Jamie, here's the info on how to add a book with a reused ISBN.http://www.goodreads.com/help/show/85...
I hope this helps.
Hi, all,I've just applied to be a librarian here on Goodreads, so at this point I don't know if I've been approved or not. But earlier today I attempted to add an edition of a book already listed, and completed the entire process and clicked "Add book". I do not see the edition listed yet. How long does it generally take for a new edition to show up in a book's listing? And if and when I'm approved as a librarian, will I have to redo the entire new edition listing?
Thanks so much,
Ellen
Ellen, you will receive notification by email if/when you are approved. (Probably after the weekend.) There will also be an indicator on your profile that you are a librarian.
However, every user, librarian or no, can add new books. What non-librarians cannot do is combine (link) existing editions to the other editions -- they float around orphaned until a librarian combines them.
What book was it?

Hello, Rivka. Nice to meet you! I attempted to add a different edition of "Portrait of a Marriage: V. Sackville-West & Harold Nicolson", by Nigel Nicolson. ISBN 0-689-10574-6, 1973, published by Atheneum, New York. When I was looking for books by Nicolson to add to my to-read list, I found the book in Goodreads but this edition wasn't present. I added it but haven't yet checked to see if it currently appears. I appreciate your telling me that anyone can add books; I was under the impression that only librarians could do so after I read the Librarian Manual. I've been approved by Goodreads and so am now a fully fledged librarian here. This is a real privilege I think, and I'm looking forward to learning all about what we can and cannot do, etc. I appreciate mentorship from the members of this group very much, and thank you once again for your help.
Welcome, Ellen. :)
Not sure what method you used to look for that book (searching by ISBN is best), but it is on GR: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22...
(and has been for several years).
Edit: Ah! You added a duplicate edition by accident, with the ISBN-10 in the ISBN-13 slot. I will merge it into the correct one.

Oh, is that what happened! What I'm not understanding, Rivka, is that frequently when I search for a book many editions appear, but not the one I have in my hand, as was the case with this one. I looked through all the editions showing but didn't see this one, so I thought I'd best add it. Thanks so much for merging the editions. I shall go to the link you sent and read it carefully to better understand how to do this.
I'm also having a slightly difficult time differentiating between the ISBN-10 and ISBN-13 numbers. Is the ISBN-13 new?
Thanks so very much, Rivka, for your help with this. I'll go slowly until I learn how to do these things.
Ellen
ISBN-10s are what was used from 1966/67 until about 10-15 years ago. At that point it was realized that we were running out of 10-digit ISBNs, and the new system, the ISBN-13, was slowly phased in. Currently, all ISBN-13s begin with 978, but that's because we're still in the transition stage.
If you search by ISBN, the specific edition you are looking for should generally show up.

I just added a new book by ISBN number, but it didn't come up with a cover. Then I clicked on one with the cover, and now there are two. It won't let me combine them because I'm not a librarian. Can someone help me, please?Chameleon by Dan Dylan
Thanks!

I fixed that.
A few tips for the future: before manually adding a book, try searching by ISBN first. If it still does not come up, and you are therefore adding it manually, be sure to put the ISBN-13 in the ISBN-13 spot, not the ISBN-10 one. (In the latter, the final three digits will be truncated when the record is saved.)

Thank you! I did put in the ISBN number, but it seemed there were 12. ??? Sorry 'bout that.
And thanks, again!

ISBNs can have 10 digits or 13. Never 12. Must have been an extra one lost somewhere, I guess.
And no worries. :)

I'll attempt to search for books using their ISBN numbers rather than the title and see if that helps. Again, thank you for your mentorship. Have a great week!
Curious... I self-published on Amazon (was just comfortable with them)Shortly thereafter I see it in Goodreads. WONDERFUL! but how did that happen?
I'm pleased as punch about it tho!
I've asked in another thread that you bring in the most current version with the correct blurb.. and I'm sure that will be taken care of soon.
Thanks gang!

Someone searched on Goodreads for something related to your name, your book's title -- or they may have simply been searching for your book. :)
Searches on related items automatically import book information from Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
Also, if you have not already done so, you may wish to apply for the GR Author Program.)

Done and Did (ha) how do I get my book (it's been edited AGAIN!) and the blurb updated with the current info...?
BLURB-Should read:
Evangelina Green Maddox thought the remodeling of her childhood summer home could have gone a lot smoother. Construction problems, rain delays, werewolves, vampires... yeah, just a few things had gone wrong. Her two other 'summer sisters' arriving early, completed the chaos. One was gravely ill, with a mysterious blood disorder, and the other now had her own problems. No spoilers!
They each had their own talents. Lina spoke with ghosts and had an affinity with animals. That power was now doubled. But the romance with Keaton Wolfe was the biggest change. Why her? She thought herself plain and ordinary. He saw her as she really was. Sexy and VERY desirable.
Would she blow it or let him into her bed and into her heart?
With a black witch on their trail, under a demon's command, and wolves circling the property, what else could go wrong?!
and the book is:

I updated the blurb.
