The recipe thread
I'd rather eat the scrapings off the wheels of Fortum and Masons trolleys than anything from asda or tesco!Anyway, my mum wouldn't let me.
well its not asda's own icing i just buy it in asda. Betty crocker's icing or something like that. Its probably just as fake though, it'll have to do cause I don't have time to make cream cheese icing, i dont ususally cheat like that
Curses!!!You're making me feel guilty and inadequate. I'm so in adequate I can't even spell the word :o(
or maybe that actually correct spelling i cant decide/tell in my distress
Sorry, Jud! Wasn't meant at you! Simon and I were having a laugh about JH's comments about supermarkets 'overthere'
I'm scared of mentioning it when JH is around but I'm actually a bit of an Asda fan. Their veg is as good as Waitrose and half the price!Wouldn't like to comment on the staff however...
And you can't beat the Waitrose bakery. Has anyone been to the revamped (and expanded!) cake counter at Waitrose in Canary Wharf? I would highly recommend the cupcakes, but nothing matches up to the gingerbread sheep.
Asda white chocolate cookies take a bit of beating. The fresh meat is a huge disappointment most of time though.
I'm very tempted to go to asda today to get the White chocolate cheese that Jud mentioned. The closest one is 30 minutes away, at least. Depending on traffic. I've not shopped in asda much here. But I LOVE walmart when I'm home. One big, bright store containing everything you might possibly want, fantastic staff to help you find it, huge parking lot (car park to you lot ;) ), and no queues! Dead cheap, too. The one in my hometown even does groceries now. Last time inwas home I had to buy an extra piece of luggage to bring out all the stuff I bought. Here's a great recipe for you, if you plan on making a roast dinner this weekend.
Quick pudding
1 cup flour
1 cup White sugar
3/4 cup milk
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla
Mix well
In an oven proof dish (2 quart would be a good size, I think), dump in a cup of dark brown sugar and a cup of boiling water. Stir to melt the sugar.
Pour in the batter mixture and bake at 350F until golden, about 20 minutes or so.
Serve warm, with maple syrup or ice cream or cream or whateverbtakes your fancy.
This is an old recipe passed down from my moms side of the family. She even gave me the 'quick pudding pan' that was her grandmother's.
The story is that it's an old Mennonite recipe that makes use of the residual heat in a wood stove after the meat has been removed.
Forgot to mention to not stir the batter into the syrup mixture. I think it may need an egg, too. Dang. You better wait til I can double check the recipe next week...I love the recipe because I always have all the ingredients on hand.
That reminds me, I wonder how Gingerlily got on with her weigh in today.I had a couple of minutes chat with her on skype yesterday, just to test it out, and she'd eaten her apple and couldn't have anything else to eat.
I hope she's done well.
I've given up on dieting...the more I diet the more weight I end up putting on!
I'm shipping a treadmill to the island next week. Bought from amazon, of course. I hate going to the gym there as they always play horrendous music so loudly that I can't hear my iPod. Forget reading. I don't plan on dieting but I do plan on walking several miles a day while I'm online with you lot!
Gingerlily wrote: ":( I tried really hard all week and didn't lose anything.... sigh"Well at least you didn't put on anything, so well done for that...you might be surprised and lose more than normal next week.
It doesn't help that we talk about food and drink in every thread, and everything is fattening!
:0)
Again, celery. You actually burn more calories eating it than you take in. And plain air popped popcorn.
Right...there's nothing for it, we're going to have to come up with a spray, a bit like one of those fresh breath sprays, which taste of our favorite things. We could then have all the lovely tastes without having to swallow anything.
Or have patches, like those nicotine ones, only for food and drink.
I got a bottle of strawberry and pear cider to try today. Ick. No need to make spray of that one! It tasted like kool-aid.
I love pear cider but I wouldn't try any drink with strawberry in it. The only way I will eat strawberries is fresh. Preferably with ice cream.
We also got an elderflower pear cider and a mixed berry pear cider. Haven't tried either yet and don't know if I'll bother now.

Champagne. MmmmmmmmmmOne of the perks on the island is that buying champagne there is cheaper than buying laundry powder.
Geoff (G. Robbins) wrote: "I'm on my way, right now!!"Yeah but a box of persil is £40. I'm sure you'll hear a lot of ranting about my shopping trips when I'm there again.
Gingerlily wrote: "Or spread all over Harry the H..."Now, now, Vanessa! We don't want to drive any more men away!"
I think I'll have to join a nunnery, with all my wicked thoughts!

We used to have a guy in work who thought body odour was a manly smell. Lets just call him 'Foul Ol' Ron'...

Yeah, okay I've read some of the first one. It's in my 'started' collection. I'm easily distracted, I admit it.

I have complete confidence in my moderator. All this happened a long time ago before she got a job in the moderators office and she has assured me she knew nothing about hacking the mobile phone of JH.
I have a load of the terry pratchetts i keep meaning to read them but never seem to get around to it. Maybe i should make one of them my next read... p.s. I love strawberry ciders, the best one is strawberry and lime brand name Rekorderlig or something like that. Strawberry and pear is a wee bit sweet even for me but still wouldn't say no
i'm trying to spread out the inheritance books cause the last one in released in November so maybe will try terry pratchet.... I'm really sturggling to decide
today I am making a rhubarb and ginger crumble - I will give out the recipe if it works- as I am making it up as I go along
