message 1301: by Katy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Katy | 2662 comments I'm wondering that too, Patti! Just wanted it to seem like I wasn't forcing her to write ;)

message 1302: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I'll hold her down while you bash her fingers on the keyboard, okay Katy?

message 1303: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Patti, if you do that she won't be able to write AT ALL. I do not advise this course of action

message 1304: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Good point Jud...

Maybe we should bribe her with promises that we'll mow the orchard.

Or we could all have a collective pee and kill the grass for her.

message 1305: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Do the postal service accept bottles of pee for delivery? Perhaps I should go courier, and does it need to be declared at customs?

message 1306: by Katy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Katy | 2662 comments I was with Patti's first suggestion! Lock her in a room, tied to a chair, with a caffine drip until she writes us a new book! ;)

But I suppose we could offer her nice things...

Mel, we'll get up with your dogs so you can have a lie-in! We'll clean while you write! We'll run you bubble baths each night!

I'm not peeing in a bottle.. haha

message 1307: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments No. Too hard to aim into a bottle for us ladiezzz.

We need buckets.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments More like a tanker! Send it round England, stopping off in Edinburgh when I am there, and then send it over to france with a major hazard warning on it.

message 1309: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Would suck if we ended up fertilising the grass rather than killing it, eh?

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Don't think there's much danger of that!

message 1311: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) My god, you lot are incorrigable!

okay, sorry for the delay in responding the damn internet is still playing up. We've also had a lot of sorting out with regard to the social etc, changing the address and all that.

I've really missed the writing though. I started a thriller about a month ago about three girls but it wasn't really grabbing me. So yesterday I tweaked it a little and have now turned it into a Lorne story. She's going to turn into a PI and set up an agency with Tony. She'll be counting on a few members of the Foul Justice cast to help her solve this particular case.

I wrote Lorne's first scene this morning and I must say it's GREAT to have her back.

Sod what my agent says about writing another character this girl won't get out of my head and I'd be doing my fans a disservice by cutting her off in her prime. What do agents know anyway! LOl

Oh and if I receive any strange passages through the post I'll be sending Lorne your way to investigate the matter. Just saying. x

message 1312: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Hehe.

Was wondering when you'd notice the smell in here.

I thought you enjoyed the honey wagon dropping round?

And may I say, yay for another Lorne book! She's such a great character and if she's speaking to you, you'd be nutzzz to ignore her!

I'm really excited that you're taking her in a new direction. (or she's taking you, rather)

It opens up so many possibilities!

Mel, I promise that if I ever start to feel about Lorne as I do about Scarpetta, I'll tell you. I don't think I'll have to though. You'll know when it's time to retire Lorne. I'm so pleased that you know it's not time yet!

message 1313: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments YAY!! More Lorne :o)

message 1314: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) Thanks Patti, that would be a great help. :-)

message 1315: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I wish someone would tell Patricia Cornwell, eh?

message 1316: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) yeah, I stopped reading her books awhile ago! :-)

Have you read any Karen Rose books, Patti?

message 1317: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I think I have in the past, Mel.
Name is familiar but nothing stands out.

Have you read Lisa Gardner? I was on a real Lisa Gardner kick for a while just before I got my first kindle.

message 1318: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) No, need to read at least one of her books over the summer.

I'm doing another writing challenge next month, 2000 words a day. I'm not saying I'll be able to do it every day but I think I can get the next book half completed by the end of the month. Going to be planning the storyline out thoroughly over the next couple of days as well as getting the garden into shape, lawn cut and hedges trimmed etc.

message 1319: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments If the weather stays crappy, you shouldn't have a problem with 2000 words a day, I reckon.

I've got nine or ten Lisa Gardner books here. Wish I could get them to you.

Looks like I'll have to donate all my books to the library. No one wants to buy them as we all have kindles...

Really I could cry.

message 1320: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) oh no! Can't you sell them through Amazon or on ebay?

message 1321: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Not from here, I'm afraid. I would try if I had some time in the UK.

But I don't, so I can't. :(

Happy news though. I discovered one friend here who hasn't got a kindle yet. She's coming round in the morning to choose lots of books. I won't get anything for them but at least I know they'll be loved.

I really shot myself in the foot by singing the kindle praises so much, eh?

message 1322: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) oops you certainly have. I must admit we got rid of loads of paperbacks when we moved. My aunt takes them back to England to the charity shops. :-)

message 1323: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Yeah, there's a cat charity on the high street that usually get my UK cast-offs.

Here, I prefer the AIDS orphanage in a near-by village. Unfortunately, due to security issues, I've never been able to visit it.

I used to spend hours n hours in two AIDS orphanages when we were in Uganda.
Hopefully there will be some volunteering opportunities in Baku.

Have to be careful to not jump in with both feet straight away, though. Always best to have a few months settling in time. I've met so many women over the years that over-do at the beginning. It's much easier to not get involved in things too soon than to try to pull away later.

message 1324: by Katy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Katy | 2662 comments Mel, Lorne isn't ready to retire! (: When we get fed up of her, we'll tell you ;) or more importantly, when you get fed up of her, you know its time to retire her!

Patti, I can't let anyone borrow my books unless they promise not to fold the corners instead of using a book mark! I know it's crazy, but I hate it! I'm sorry that you've got to get rid of yours though, I'd be at a loss for which ones to get rid of! I love all my books!

message 1325: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) That's admirable of you Patti and I wouldn't expect anything less. Yeah, find your feet first before offering to help.

Hey, Katy, thanks hon. When are your results through?

I know what you mean, hate the corners being turned back. My mum is a pain in the butt though, she leaves the book open, flat out with the cover up and then complains when the pages fall out! :-(

message 1326: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I'm a corner-folder and flat out opener. I also use books as coasters.

You both hate me now, don't you? ;)

My kindles, however, get treated with kid gloves.

message 1327: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) LOL! There's always an exception to the rule, Patti. :-)

message 1328: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) Thank you Lorraine for the wonderful review on A Time For Change! x

Just to let you know that I'm starting another gruelling writing challenge today 2000 words a day. I'm hoping to have the weekends off but it depends how well the story is going.

That means another Lorne book could be out in 3-4 months (after the editor has gone through it) instead of January 2013 as planned.

You'll also be pleased to know that I've noted down 6 future stories involving Lorne as a PI, I just hope one of those stories doesn't start tapping my brain saying "write me first" LOL

message 1329: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Ooooh Mel, you need some time to settle in your new home too, and to have some time for yourself !

message 1330: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments But I can't deny that I'm happy though :)

message 1331: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) Haha! I'm well and truly settled now Lorraine. Three-quarters of the way through taming the garden just a few more areas to attack.

I plan on decorating in September so want to get this book finished by then, hopefully that will happen. :-)

message 1332: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Oiy.

Do I have to abuse you in here as well as on Facebook? ;)

message 1333: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Ok, will try and not disturb you too much Mel !

message 1334: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) Crikey, think I'll jump in the bath now, it might help ease my whiplash marks. Sorry Patti.

2014 words written today. I love Lorne! lol

message 1335: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Blimey Mel ! Just need to stick the fingers in the bath and you'll get plenty of steam Pssssshhhhh ! Lol

message 1336: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) Haha! Hey, it was a breeze Lorraine. Maybe it's because I plotted every chapter out fully before starting.

Not sure it'll be that easy every day though.

Katy! I'm disappointed in you!

message 1341: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) haha! Katy, what part of France?

You could've popped in if you were in the area! :-)

I have no idea when results are due, sorry! :-)

Well I'm 6000 words into my July challenge. Going well so far, the characters are really coming into their own now!

message 1342: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments On target! I'm very impressed, Mel.

I'd better bake a double batch of cookies.

Katy | 2662 comments I was in northern Brittany, up near Carantec (: Glad to hear you've got a new challenge underway!

I'm sorry Patti! I'll do better next time ;)

message 1346: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) Hope you had fun, Katy! Never been to Brittany, hope to put that right soon. :-)
