Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Would you recommend reading the prequel first or in order of publication?

message 57: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) Sarah, that's sweet of you. Yes read the prequel first and you'll understand Lorne's motivations more in Impeding Justice.

Hope you like them. ;-)

M.A. Comley (melcom) Just received a wonderful review in the US for Cruel Justice from one of the top thriller writers over there! I didn't even know Libby had read my other books, she hadn't commented on them!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great storytelling!, October 9, 2011
By
Libby Fischer Hellmann
This review is from: Cruel Justice (DI Lorne Simpkins thriller part of a trilogy) (Kindle Edition)
Someone is killing women, decapitating them, and leaving them in the woods to be discovered by hikers and furtive lovers. DI Lorne Simpkins gets the case, and like her other two, dives in with her trademark energy and tenaciousness. In CRUEL JUSTICE, her third book, (which is actually a prequel) Mel Comley has become quite the storyteller. Her pacing is sharp, and there is not a wasted page. In other words, things happen, often at breakneck speed. But we also learn much more about Lorne's personal life and the people around her. Rather than simply portraying a superwoman police officer, the author lets us see Lorne's vulnerable side, and we understand better her mixed feelings about her rocky marriage, her new boss, and her partner. This is a terrific story, and one not to be missed.

Nice surprise on a dreary Sunday. ;-)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Huzzah! I'm really looking forward to reading it. If I can get through The Moonstone as quickly as I did The Righteous I should be able to start Cruel Justice soon. :)

message 71: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) Wow! Thanks Patti.

message 73: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) Katy, you're wonderful, your comments always make me cry! lol ♥♥♥

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I did enjoy The Righteous, Mel. Very much. I'm looking forward to the discussions on it.

I'm not sure if I'll like Moonstone. I'll give it a go and if I don't get into it I'll move on.

message 75: by Katy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Katy | 2662 comments I hope they make you cry happy tears! haha. I wasn't happy with my review this time, but I couldn't put my feelings into words. Definitely the best in the trilogy! I loved seeing more of Lorne's personal life and how she isn't as tough as she makes out!

message 76: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) Bless thanks Katy, don't worry about the review it was fine, honestly, I really appreciate it.

Had another wonderful review today too.

This is where Final Justice and Impeding Justice began. Bodies are piling up and Lorne thinks she has a serial killer on her hands, someone with a personal vendetta against her.

This takes us right back to the beginning. We begin to understand the reasons between the different relationships in Lorne's life. The characters are fleshed out a bit more in this and as ever it was a complete page turner. I read it very quickly as it was so hard to put down. It was nice to be taken back so we could see the relationships unfolding, somehow it made the other two books make a lot more sense!

I can recommend this as an opener to the series. If you have read the other books, its a must read. if you haven't then it is an excellent place to start in a series of thrillers that are utterly impossible to put down!

;-)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments You know what? Ta heck with The Moonstone. I'm reading Cruel Justice next.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Mel! How are you? DeeDee said you were having email troubles or something?

Bad Patti! Still haven't done the review! I promise I will before weeks end.

message 85: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) No problem Patti. Five days with no phone or internet, unbelievable. The downside to living in the country I suppose. ;-)

How are you?

Hope you liked Cruel Justice? ;-( ;-) lol

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Didn't I say? Nope I didn't. Guess you'll have to wait for my review, eh?

Oooooo I can be so mean!!!!!

Please do fix your new release thread title before your net dies again. Simon and I are being very picky about something for a change.

message 89: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) LOL!!!

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Thank you Mel for introducing me to a new detective 'friend',makes a nice change that this one is a female.Lorne for me is up there with Lincoln Rhyme,Tony Hill,Rebus ,Alex Cross and my very old pal Poirot.
Having finished Final Justice this morning I sadly said Au Revoir in the real hope we will meet again soon.
Now I have to ask, when will we meet again?

message 91: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) Bless you, Sarah, what a lovely thing to say, I'm touched.

I've just finished the first draft of a new Lorne Novellette where she tackles the plight of greyhound racers.

The research has been horrendous!

I'm giving ALL the proceeds to P.U.P.S a dog rescue charity in Worcester.
I rang Sheila last night to tell her the news and she broke down in tears! She's saved over 1000 dogs now and received an MBE for the work she does.

The story should be out in about ten days!

Mel xx♥♥

Mhairi Simpson (mhairisimpson) | 1158 comments Bless you, you're such a sweetheart!

Edit: So is Sheila, of course.

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Now I have two reasons to look forward to your new book Mel,I have rescued several dogs over the years, wishing you and your friend success with the venture.

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments Thanks for the short story Mel, it was very enjoyable. I've reviewed it on Amazon this morning.

Have you read Patsy Whyte's No Easy Road? No Easy Road It's not an easy road, but compelling as she describes her time in the child welfare system. It was interesting that she describes a number of paranormal encounters she had during that time.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Pah. He was reading your story while I was trying to have a convo with him in Skype! How rude.

message 96: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) LOL, Patti.

Geoff thank you so much for a wonderful review. You hit the nail on the head, I wanted it to feel like a dramatisation rather than fiction.

Nice to know there weren't any typos too! lol

I'll definitely be looking up No Easy Road too.

Sarah, it's been my ambition since I started writing to donate funds to Sheila. I hope it sells well, because I know that EVERYTHING that is donated to her charity goes on the dogs she saves. That can't be said about other charities. ;-)

message 97: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) OMG! I forgot to say, that I've just received the proof copies of the paperback versions of my 3 thrillers!

They're brilliant quality too! ;-)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Yay!!!!

Thanks for letting us celebrate with you, Mel!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Could have been worse. I could have disturbed you while you were trying to read in bed.
