Mhairi Simon | 4 comments Are Self-Help books real literature?

I wonder sometimes if self-help books are side-lined too often – not reviewed, not rated, not valued very much unless by the readers who want to learn from them.
Is that fair?
Is there an argument to take this genre seriously?

Mhairi, Surly self-help books are taken seriously by those who use them and the 'genre' as a whole recognised and respected by those who don't. But I think it unfair to expect readers who have no interest in the subject matter to review them, unless they review as a profession. I do not know what your reading tastes are but say for instance you enjoy westerns would you really want to read and review a romance novel?

Regrettably I have very little time to spare and therefore do not get to read as much as I would like. However, when I do I try to review the book. My blog is about more than books but if you would like to have a look there are some reviews on the 'Reviews' page. http://www.peterroberts99.blogspot.co...
