I think you'll really love it Hugh. Ok, who am I kidding! You'll love all of Reilly's books because he is crazy action man!Lady D, I know we've said it before, but I'm going to say it again- he needs to write a sequel to Temple!
I hope it's true as well! It's hard to believe he's only written eight books so far. With the exception of Contest, I've loved them all. Can't wait for Jan of next year for the next Scarecrow!
To be honest, while there were things I didn't like, in the end it was just the strong feeling of dislike when I finished that turned me off it. I didn't like the characters, the writing did excite me and what could have been a fabulous idea just fell flat to me.I hate to say it, but if I'd read it before any of his other work I never would have picked up anything by him again.
Well it's good that it's his first book, huh? Also good it wasn't his first published book, I don't think.
I just read an article that said ABC has bought a TV show based on the Jack West Jr series. If they do it right it could be so much fun!
Lady Danielle "The Book Huntress" wrote: "I am really excited!!! More Scarecrow (pumps fist)!"
Shouldn't this fist pump be done with an (in your case) graceful knee-bend and a hearty "YESSSS!" (in my case a more or less permanent, less than graceful knee bend followed by an "oohh...aaah.." and then in a much quieter voice. "I've fallen and I can't get up...somebody call a crane!")

That works too... but I bet you get better looks when you do it that way than I do when I do it that way. (Sigh) Such gender bias in todays society.
Yeah, even with my yoga exercises, I am very physically inept. I don't think I can keep up with your choreography, Hugh. :)
If Tiger Woods can do it, you can do it...(not many people have to carry the weight of the world with issues like his on their shoulders).
Oh no Hugh. Trust me when I say I get looks too. I've been told, quite frequently, that I'm a tad loud when I squee. I only mention it because normally I'm a very quiet person and I think it might be surprise more than volume, but the results are the same. Very strange looks.
Who cares says I, when it has to do with something Squee worthy!

Who me?
I can't lie. I've been known to get a teensy bit overexcited about certain things. Just a smidge, mind you.
Hugh (The other Hugh) wrote: "you know your ability to recognize us as crazy likely means you belong with us too."hmmm gee how did you fiqure that out so quickly...LOL

I am intreged, going to add Matthew Reilly to my tbr list.
Wow, I'm falling behind the TBR again. I need to push a Matt Riely or a James Rollins up there. If there was one Riely (other than Ice Station) what's the recommendation?
You mean another book by Reilly? I'd recommend either Area 7 (second Scarecrow book) or Temple which is a stand alone.
Alice, Alice, Alice.... I said one book. Now I'll never decide! Temple.... Area 7... Temple... Aria 7... aaah... okay.... head ot head coin tossing until one is left standing!
If you want to do a quick Matthew Reilly read try Hell Island. The action starts with the first page and doesn't end until the last sentence on the last page. You go for quite a ride with Scarecrow in this one. Think you will enjoy it. But it is a very quick read.
So sorry Hugh! If it's only one you want I say go for Temple. Great jungle adventure.Hell Island is a great novella (short story, whatever), but it does have some slight spoilers for the book Scarecrow.
In future I will make sure to take your requests more literally ;)
I'm just teasing you Alice. If someone asked me for "just one" I wouldn't be able to give it to them, or I'd give them one, then second guess myself and call them back.
Temple! got it, going for that one. (and/or Hell Island). Got it. I now have a goal.
He gonna beat up on the Frency some more?

I don't really remember too well who the baddies are in Temple. Some of the action sequences really stuck with me though...wait till you get to the jaguars!
That's funny, the English were the worst bad guys in Ice Station, ....until you think about whales and... elephant seals.

Yup! I think that Matt Reilly can make any animal into a great villain. I'm waiting for him to have killer raccoons in one of his books.
Hey raccoons can be scary! My favorite thing about the killer whales was that one of my closest friends is named Warren- who was one of the guys killed by a whale in Ice Station.
Lady D- I always laugh too when I read Patricia Briggs. I tell him he's a gay werewolf with serious humor issues.
The things I find funny...
Watch out for the wiley otters!
I have humor issues too. "My mind walks to the beat of a different drummer...very distant and far away."

Alice, I am very afraid of raccoons. I'm glad it's not just me. Those things are freaky and they are pretty darn dangerous!
That's cool your friend is named Warren. I really like Warren's character and his bf Kyle. I loved the scene in Iron Kissed when they were watching Queen of the Damned with Mercy and all drooling over the half naked Lestat. My sister loves that movie for the same reason. What does he say when you tell him about the literary namesakes of his?

He just laughs and shakes his head. Anytime I run into a character named Warren I pick on him. Except the one from Buffy. I find no humor in even thinking about comparing him to that evil troll. Sorry, I still get very passionate about my Buffy. He is also a Marine so the fact that Warren got eaten by a whale in a Scarecrow book tickles my funny bone to no end.
This book isn't too bad. It was set on my last ship. Rites of War: A Novel of Crisis and Combat at Sea by C.A. Mobley. We thought it was interesting because I was part of the commisioning crew and it hadn't been commisioned yet (so it's near future). It's not as gripping as Crimson Tide, but it has a strong female Heroine. I liked it.

Ugh! I can't stand Warren from Buffy. I think it was horrible that Evil Willow flayed him, but he sort of deserved it. (horrible of me to say)

Have you been attacked by beavers, Jason?
Raccoons are vicious and they carry lots of nasty diseases, like a roundworm that eats through your brain. Ick!

I was talking about my pay check. The one click button is the bane of my existence (but... I like it!)
