This is a fairly current book (last 5 years, I think) and Queen Eliz. gets ousted and she and the royal family have to live as commoners. It's really fun!!! It's not a long book, easy read, she moves into a "counsel house" (charity) and makes do.

It is from 1992... so it is a bit too old to fit your idea... it is a funny book though with the whole royal family trying to life as normal brits.
YES? Oh that's great. I wasn't so sure as it is a bit older. Glad I could help. I enjoyed it when I read it although I didn't know that much about the individual royals... My granny and her yellow press magazines educated me later ;-)
I lived in London from '96-2000 so it was absolutely hysterical when I read it. Thanks!
