I just finished Mockingjay ... And, I couldn't agree more with everything you said. The build up was great, but it felt like everything became rushed after the bombing where Boggs was killed. I think out of everything ... I was most disappointed by Finnick's death; it was so inconsequential, especially for such a wonderful character. Prim's death, and the communication, or lack there of, with Gale ... it just felt rushed.

All in all though ... I adored the entire series. There is a depth that plunges well below the romance, action, or even history/sociological science-fiction ... perhaps it is the combination of those, and fantastic character development (we really have to care about the characters, to be upset with the rushed ending ^_^), along with terrifying, yet beautifully rich settings. Yes, this is a remarkable series, indeed.

Anya Allyn | 16 comments I went to see the movie last week. Ye Gods, that scene when they first jump off their stands into the games arena is horrific!

And then I read the book ... wrong way around I know!

Shelly (mashbay) I'm just starting to reread this series for, I think, the 4th time. I'm about out of books and it's so great!

I don't mind that approach actually, I think you enjoy the movie more because you aren't comparing to the book and then the book will be way better so it won't disappoint either LOL

Mel | 13 comments Maybe I'm the only one who thought this, but I thought he wanted to discuss his being in love with Katniss separately with Haymitch. His training included prep for the Cesar Flickman interview. Also, he and Haymitch were smiling when they finished the prep and didn't Haymitch look at Katniss in a particular way? I don't have the book, so I don't remember. Also, he did the physical training with her at first. Wasn't the other training he did just prep for the interview?

Cheree (kumikoko) | 12 comments I might get crap for this but I watched the movie and liked it. For the record, I own the first book but have yet to read it. I want to though, if that counts for anything?

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 1269 comments Lol I liked the movie too! You should definitely read the book too though :)

Lila | 58 comments I'm afraid to watch the movie... I love the books and what if the movie isn't as good? well I know it won't be as good but... still.

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 1269 comments Not as good of course but still really worth watching :)

Beatrice (beatricemasalunga) I can't wait for Catching Fire movie :)

Kelly (Diva Booknerd) (divabooknerd) | 16 comments I watched the film first before I read the series and the novels were far superior to the movie, as entertaining as it was. I couldn't put the books down and found myself on a real emotional journey throughout the three. I actually shed a few silent tears during the last few pages of mockingjay, but also needed to reread some paragraphs over again, as it felt it concluded too quickly and I thought I must have missed something.

My only issue now is that every book I've picked up since, just doesn't hold me the way the hunger games did, and I lose interest.

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 1269 comments Have you tried Divergent? A lot of THG lovers like that one. Also here's a list of books compared to THG you might like :)

Vanessa Gayle ⚔️ Fangirl Faction (fangirlfaction) I love this series so much! I really fell in love with all of the characters in this. I couldn't stop reading! I had to know what happened next. I agree with some of the others that the ending of the book felt a little rushed. I would have liked a little more at the end. As a whole though, I fell in love with this whole world and all of the characters in it.

Kassioppe This serie is the most fantastic serie I've read of my entire life x) . I don't find a serie who can surpass this one. It makes me laugh because when the first movie was released , I didn't go because I was " It doesn't interest me. How can you enjoy seeing people killing each other ? " Then , one day , THE DAY which changed everything , I watched it : OH MY GOSH ! The revelation !! ^^ I went with my sister to Watch Catching Fire and for my birthday I received the trilogy. I read it in less than a week if I correctly remembered . I'm a bit disappointed with the third one cause in my opinion , Suzanne Collins didn't develop much as I wanted. MOckingjay Part 1 is really great and I worship Francis Lawrence for all the changes he made *-*

I'm in love with this serie. It's not just about a totally shattered girl who endured two Hunger Games. It's also about fighting , rebellion and I Love that. Besides , the world created by Suzanne Collins is so fascinating.

Hunger Games is my Bible x) I really don't know why we don't study it in English literature lesson.

HashtagBreezie I loved the first 2 but was extremely disappointed with Mockingjay. I felt like it should have been 4 books instead of 3 and that she got bored telling her own story and just rushed to get it done. I also felt it lacked the guts to do unthinkable. The reason I disliked this book is exactly the reason I loved Allegiant. That book ended with guts. This one just chickened out.

I felt the same way. I LOVED the first 2, but hated the third (although the movie was good). I just felt ambushed. Katniss was such an amazing character, and Collins just destroyed her in Mockingjay. It was just nihilistic, and cynical, and empty. Even when Prim died, it really had zero impact.

Jaina | 27 comments THG is what opened my eyes to YA Fiction. So glad I read it.
Personally, I think the first book was always my favourite. I found Catching Fire really anti-climatic but Mockingjay was the most surprising (and sad) book.

message 118: by Tammie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Tammie Tackett this book and movie was awesome i loved them both

Maggie the Muskoka Library Mouse (mcurry1990) I read all three books before seeing the movies, and thought that by far "The Hunger Games" and "Catching Fire" made better books. "Mockingjay," however, was different.I found the book extremely political, and had to force myself to finish it. The movie I really liked, and would see again.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 152 comments I loved Mockingjay. I think it's because it did get political.
