I try, but it never seems to work for long. Maybe I'm obsessive-compulsive? :-)
Every writer is different, so if the edit as you go is working for you, then if it ain't broke, don't fix it! The only reason I changed was because I didn't like editing as I go.

For y'all who mentioned worrying about returning library books. Check to see if you can renew online. Our has that available now. :)

Ours has that too, but you can only renew once and I still fall under the weird thing of needing to read a book on deadline. It feels too much like school work. :(

Have you tried not editing? I used to edit to death when I wrote but then I got my Alphasmart which physically restrains my self-editing, and while I hate the rough draft, the actual writing goes faster and the editing goes faster too, when I edit all at once.
