Hi, all! I have an historical romance out: it's called "A Gathering of Light". It is set during and after the Civil War. The second book in the series should be out around the end of January, 2012.
"A Gathering of Light" opens in the Virginia timber, at the Battle of the Wilderness. Hixson Morris is gut shot and dying. Beautiful, mysterious Sarah Westbay saves his life by using her unique gift for healing. Unknown to her at the time, by saving Hixson she will save herself.
I was a freshman in high school when we were given a creative writing assignment: to use a clipping from the library's historic newspaper collection and write a fictional story based on that. I read the story of a Southern teenager. She was an orphan, living alone and was attacked by a band of renegades. I didn't write about it then, but I imagined a different ending for that young woman. "A Gathering of Light" is that story.
You can find my personal blog, just for fun, at http://contemplatinghappiness.blogspo...
"A Gathering of Light" is available almost everywhere ebooks are sold. And watch for "A Light in the Mountains", also by Patricia Iles, coming soon!
Thank you Patricia for letting us know about your book! It looks really good, look where a creative assignment has taken you! Is A light in the Mountains a sequel to her story? Off to check it out:)

Thanks again for your interest!

Patricia wrote: "Ah, yes. Those wonderful biceps and forearms. (she blushes). LOL. Rhett Butler (in the book, of course) must have made you swoon a little: a piratical Southerner with great muscles and passion, too!"
Oh..yeah.. great combination indeed :D

I read your book "Gathering Light" Patricia and enjoyed it very much. I will look forward to reading your new book. Thanks for the information.

I have a novel out, The Rebel's Angel. You can get more information about the book on my website https://sites.google.com/site/cassand...
I also am giving away three copies on Goodreads.
I have a question for other authors out there. Have any of you used a literary agent? How did you go about getting an agent? I am interested in this for my next book.
Thanks Cassandra! I enter to win. Even if I don't I have this mark as a must read. I have to finish the trilogy that I am currently reading, but your book will be next on the list. :D I wish I could help with you agent question, but I am not an author, just an avid reader.
What is a "literary" agent Cassandra? Is it the same as an editor? I tried to find your book in the giveaway here but cant find it:(

A literary agent helps you find publishers. They sort of go to bat for you and promote your book and try to get you the best deal.
Ahh..pooh for US only *sniff*:(
So you would never self publish as so many authors seem to be turning to that now.
