Hi, I'm fumbling around in European Modern history at the mo'. I hanker for thrilling reads but shy from today's melange of preposterous, shoot'em up, sex 'em up, save the world tack. I'm looking for thrillers (not limited to fiction) that has roots in the real-world and asks you to think about what is happening.
I don't know if this fits the bill, but The Day of the Jackal by Frederick Forsyth is worth reading, and I generally don't read those types of books.

Hi, I’m Brook in St. Louis, although I identify as a New Yorker. 😂 I’m a former high school English teacher and current elementary administrator. I have one daughter and two stepkids. All three are in high school which means when I’m not reading, I’m cooking. I grew up an Air Force brat and have lived in Germany, Florida, Alabama, DC, Arizona, New York, Mexico, and now St. Louis.
Hello everybody, this is Sophie from Germany, it took me a long time to join goodreads, I have been looking in the challenges here for a few days now and find it extremely inspiring. Having read books from all over the world as a child I had a tendency to focus on British literature during the last years, now I am redetecting Belarus, Poland, and look for new impressions.

Hi everybody! I just joined and wanted to introduce myself. My name is Kyle and I live in Seattle. I'm a teacher and one of my favourite things to do is travel. This year my reading New Year Resolution was to read one book per (inhabited) continent, really as a way to stretch some of my reading habits - I don't know that I'd ever read something by a South American author until this year!
I read most anything, though I do love reading travelogues - after reading Round Ireland with a Fridge in university I've read a lot, especially before I travel somewhere. I've also been inspired by books that I've read to visit other places (I read Tales of the City in high school and when I finally made it to San Francisco I basically took a tour of everywhere that existed in the books).
Anyway that's probably too much but I'm looking forward to seeing what this group is about.
Welcome, Kyle!I like your reading goal because you're going to discover some great books and authors.
Hi, I'm Kelly. I'm British and living in London. I'm not joking when I say, it's a dangerous place. I go to work. I go back to my room. I don't go out. Does anyone want to be my friend?
Hi all, I'm living in London. As every month comes there are fewer and fewer pennies in my pocket: I’ve only myself to blame, I voted…….. Staying in is actually more enjoyable than I first thought: books, books, and more books appeals.
Please friend me: I'm little and shy from saying boo to a goose.
Hello,If I'm not at work, rowing or cooking, I'm reading. I read that which reflects the world we live in. I don't read fantasy, horror, sci-fi: you get the idea.
David LyalinРассказы дедушки / Tales of a Grandfather: Who Once Upon a Time Was a Grandson Himself
Hello everyone,
I’d like to introduce myself and my recently published bilingual (Russian–English) book, Tales of a Grandfather Who Once Upon a Time Was a Grandson Himself (Sandermoen Publishing, Switzerland, 2025).
It’s a collection of short stories — tender, ironic, and deeply personal — tracing the Jewish family experience across generations and continents. The narrator, a grandfather, revisits the past through memories of his ancestors and his own childhood, bridging languages, migrations, and eras.
The book celebrates cross-cultural dialogue and the endurance of family stories — how they survive exile, war, and assimilation, and still speak to new generations.
Stories remembered, retold, and passed down across generations.
For grandparents who were once grandchildren.
For those who speak English, Russian — or both.
For anyone who wants to pass on something lasting to the next generation.
For those who remember — and those who want to understand.
Available in print and digital formats (EPUB, PDF, FB2).
