Introductions

I'm Andrew, a new member on this group, new to Good Reads, and new to a great many aspects of the book world! And being new here, I have no idea who I'm even saying hello to... which is kin..."
Welcome to the group, Andrew! Nothing beats real travel, but traveling through books is the next best thing.

Hi, Oma! Welcome to the group!

Well, it's a small world! I didn't expect to find anyone on here that I'd 'met' before! I'm impressed that you even remember my old blog. That was so many years ago. It's taken quite some time to write a book worth reading (at least, I hope it is worth reading!) Hiking 7,000-miles was far easier!
I appreciate the welcome from Rosemarie, George P., and Diane as well! Thank you.
Diane, yes - real travel does beat traveling through books. Or, does it? Reading (or writing!) a travel book can be a profoundly deep journey, and perhaps, arguably, a more thoughtful journey - given that it can be done more slowly, without the action and immediacy of physical travel.
I wonder if the comparison is worth a whole discussion thread!

if anyone has any recommendations for nonfiction lit from around the world, id love that! especially poetry.

Yep agreed. Third class book. Avoid it . You have been warned!

Hi, Ibana! Welcome to the group! There are lots of great poetry books from around the world. I will have to start a list.
Do you have any authors you can recommend from Maldives?
Hi,
I'm Jenny - I may have joined this group before and left, because I didn't participate much, but between Covid and my medical history I find myself travelling through books more. I also do some reading challenges over on Litsy that last the year - this year I'm travelling through Asia and next year it's Africa. I live in Dorset, England.

Hi, Jenny! Glad to have you back! Let me know if you get stuck on finding any books for Asia.

I'm new to the group, just started recording what I read by country in an effort to continue to diversify what I read. I travel a lot to east Africa for work and have particularly enjoyed learning more about the history and culture of place I travel through reading. I have also participated in the Read Harder challenge from Book Riot for the past few years.
Looking forward to contributing and hearing suggestions from others!
-Lauren

Please forgive me for being so bold, but I see that you travel to East Africa. Do you have suggestions for books on Djibouti, particularly on the history and culture?

Hope to hear from you. elainemaryb@yahoo.it
I can send a pdf copy for an honest review.
Grazie in advance!

Hi Reed! Welcome to the group!

Hi, Kia! Translated fiction is my obsession, as well. Welcome to the group!

As a mom of four, I started pandemic gardening on the advise of my sons who wanted to grow something in the backyard, and now I have a new hobby, and lots of fresh vegetables. Hiking and gardening provides me lots of opportunities to explore audiobooks and have grown to love them just as I learned to love my Kindle.
I’ve been lurking for about a year and decided to join a group challenge this year as motivation to read more. I do tend to lean toward reading non-fiction - autobiography, biography, history, political campaigns, Western Civilization, Korea (North & South) history, inventors, religions, and science. My fiction reads tend to be thrillers, suspense, a touch of fantasy, and historical fictions.
Look forward to sharing and discovering books from fellow ATW80 members.
Diane, thank you for keeping this group tidy and organized. I’ve been awestruck how you keep the board moving along and doing it all on your own. Well done!
Happy New Year to all!

Last year I challenged myself to read more, especially a wider variety of books. So I decided to try to read my way around the world, especially as we can't travel these days
Genre isn't so important, nor is fiction/non-fiction, but I'm aiming for writers FROM those countries rather than anglophone writers setting their books IN those countries.
Can't wait to join this journey with you all!

Hello all, I'm Elizabeth and a stay-at-home mom from central Alabama. I stumbled across this group by accident during a Google search for reading challenges for 2022. After reading a bit of the threads and the challenges, I decided to join.
Rosemarie wrote: "Hi, Elizabeth. Welcome to the group. I joined in 2016 and haven't looked back."
Thanks, Rosemarie! I saw this and the options for completing the challenge and immediately thought of the old 19th century grand tours... this could be such fun!

Hello Elizabeth! Welcome to the group!

I guess that makes me a "circumnavigator"? Once I figure out how this group works, I'm looking forward to finding more new books and chatting with you all.

Hi Rosemarie. Thanks for the welcome! I've also taught middle school, but am back to the little ones now.

Hi Angela! Welcome to the group!

Welcome to the group, Lisa!
