Hi I'm Guilllermo from Argentina. I was born in Uruguay and moved here with my family. Through work I've been lucky to visit several countries around the world in South America, North America, Europe and Australia. I love to read and learn from different cultures. I am more than happy to join this exciting idea about travelling the world through the magic carpet of books!

Hi everyone, I live on the southern coast of England by the sea in Poole with my wife and Luna, our dog. Like most of you, I would love to travel the world, but due to time and money, a lot of it has to be through books. I find a good travel book really hard to resist. I remember a school teacher telling my class reading was so wonderful because it can take you to any place and any time. Words which are so true and which I have never forgotten. I also do some writing and have published a few novels, and most recently a non-fiction travel one.

I find this group a wonderful source of ideas for travelling through the world by book, probably the only travelling I'll be doing for a while. My latest read took me to Ecuador, I can highly recommend it The Old Man Who Read Love Stories
Hello RuthThanks, I'm putting it on my list. Currently, I'm reading Clear Waters Rising by Nicholas Crane, who walks across the mountains of Europe from northwest Spain to Turkey. It's an insight into some of the wildest, least visited parts of Europe. Yes, don't think we'll be able to travel this year.
This is a chance for everybody to explore and visit local and not so far destinations. Many people travel across the globe but never visit interesting local sites. Chin up

Hello everyone!I'm an underwater photographer, conservation writer, and doting dad to an 8 year old boy. Background in archaeology (both above and below the waterline) so I've spent quite a bit of time traveling. I'm new to this group and can't wait to start seeing everyone's recommendations!

Greetings,I'm a new member and an author.
I'd like to share with the group about a special promotion for free Kindle books this Father's Day Weekend. Both books are about Vietnam; the first one is a novel set in Vietnam during the war; the second one is a travelogue of my recent visit to Vietnam after a decades-long absence. Both books are award winners.
Where should I post the specifics and links to these freebies?
Thanks so much

Hello! My name is Mary, I'm from Mexico and I'm very happy to join this club. I don't get a lot of chances to travel so I love reading about places I've never been and I'm always open to suggestions. That said if anyone knows of a book set in Nepal, I would love to hear about it.Have a great day everyone!
Hi everyone! I’m Frances, and I’m from the Philippines. I’m new to this group. I enjoy reading books from all over the world. Finding this group is a wonderful surprise for me!!! I’m particularly interested in the Women in Translation theme. It looks like a lot of fun. I actually just read The Memory Police. I’d like to read Celestial Bodies along with you.
Hello Frances, ftom Celestial Bodies is a discussion at the mena group from 2020. Here the link. https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...Welcom!

Hi Johanna. I’m confused. That link sent me to a different group. At the top of the webpage of this group, it says that Celestial Bodies is selected for July/Aug 2020 Women in Translation theme (?). I can just read On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous because I see there’s an ongoing discussion for that. :)
Hello! My name is Jessica; I'm a 22 years old Mexican Marketer recently unemployed. I am using this unexpected free time to do again what I love the most: studying languages, drawing my comic, and reading a lot of books.
Looking at what I have read, most of it is conformed by American books and a couple Mexican and Japanese books. That's unacceptable, I have to add more variety and a new point of view to that.
I am more used to read books published before 2010, I don't trust new recently published books so quickly, I don't know why.
Nice to meet you all!

So I've ignored the reading in this group, sorry.

Hey everyone! My name is Martina. I am a 31-year-old SAHM in Nebraska. I absolutely love reading books set in other countries or written by authors from different countries and cultures. I love dipping my reading toes into places and lives so different from my own. I'm excited to join this group, read some of the monthly books, and get suggestions based off of what others here are reading! :)
Hey there,I’m Jana from Ukraine. I live for 16 years in Germany now, I am 23 years old, I study literature and somehow found your interesting group. I’m very excited about what new books I’ll find through this little ‚book club‘.

Hello everyone! :) I'm Anne, 25-year-old aspiring teacher from Germany. Whenever I've got time, I love to read and my passion is travelling and exploring new places. Before I go somewhere new I often enjoy reading books set around these places. Since travelling is quite difficult at the moment I'm really happy that I found this group with this impressive bookshelf and I'm looking forward to all the places I will discover through books.

Hi, Anne! Welcome to the group! I spent about three weeks in Germany last year and througly enjoyed it.

Hello everyone! I'm Silva, from Portugal. I'm a student and I'd like to be involved in either writing or animation someday. I can't travel outside of my country but I've always loved reading. As I grew so did my collection of books and now I have books from so many different authors of diferent places. I like reading the stories but beyond that it's interesting to see how diferent cultures affect the writing and I really like broadening my horizons! Traveling through worlds and time is also great fun for me. I'll definetly pick some from this group's bookshelf to add to my wtr! :D
Hi everyone! I'm looking forward to being in this group. I've always wanted to travel but have never had the privilege to, so here I am - trying to experience the world through books! I've always loved reading but recently have made it more of a priority to reignite that passion, so I've been joining some challenges in different groups here and going through my large TBR list. I might not join the official challenges in this group just yet, but I'll be starting a thread just to track the locations of the books I plan to read over the next few months. I'm excited to see the variations in setting and learn about new cultures through my reading. I also super appreciate the lists of books this group has put together by location, so I'm excited to look through those and find some new titles. Feel free to add me on here! I'm always up for making new friends :)

I didn't get to that part of Germany. Maybe next time.

Hi Zeejane!
I definitely have a similar issue (?) lol. I find myself branching out a lot more when I'm looking for my next country's book than I do when reading outside of the challenge, when I mostly read sci-fi, fantasy, and horror.
Hi everyone! I'm a 30something book- and catlover from Germany (Marburg, close to Frankfurt). I have inherited my passion for books from my father, he always bought a lot of Barbara Wood books about Australia, the Outlander series etc. I still have a soft spot for books about Australia, New Zealand and Scotland (sadly never been to those countries in real life). Would like to branch out a bit culture wise, been reading some latinx books this year.
Oh before I forget: if anyone wants to add me on Goodreads and/or Instagram ( katiecatsbookishlife is my name there) I'd appreciate it. Started a Netgalley account and I really need to work on my social media if I want to get approved for "the good stuff" :)
If any of you have some good tips about Netgalley or Bookstagram I´d love to have a chat!
