Sharon | 12 comments Hello! :3
My name is Sharon, I'm on a gap year, expecting to start my Master's in Fall 2020. I'm from the United States and I majorly love to travel. I've been to 9 countries so far and I studied in both Belfast, Northern Ireland and Corinth, Greece while I was an undergrad.
Mostly, I really love to read fantasy/sci-fi/paranormal/alt-history stuff, but I really want to work on expanding and international-izing my reading. Not only am I hoping to do all the countries, I'd really like to read a book for every state! I'm kind of doing some of my own weird rules (ex: I'm reading one book for every member of the UK, so England, N Ireland, Wales, and Scotland, but mostly because I'm an Anglophile nerd lol.) but I'm very excited. I just finished my first book (Canada) this afternoon.

Hello Group!

I’m new to this group but certainly not to reading/writing or enjoying what others create.
In the real world I own an Independent Publishing Company and love finding ways to support authors all over the world, even if we don’t publish them.
Joining the group is a fun and educational way to broaden more of what I read while having conversations with people who don’t see me as a CEO but just as another bibliophile, like themselves.
Nonfiction is my jam, I’m an avid tea drinker and collect teacups just as much as books.

Meaghan

Matthew Caracciolo | 3 comments Hello! My name is Matt and I came by travel literature sort of by accident. I lived in South Korea for two years teaching English, during which time I gained an appreciation for reading and writing about travel. I ended up writing about my experiences in South Korea in my first book The Waygook Book: A Foreigner's Guide to South Korea! As those who have taught in Korea know, 'waygook' is the Korean word for 'foreigner' and what many expats in the country refer to themselves as.

Rosemarie | 3958 comments Hi, Meaghan and Matt! Welcome to the group!

follow me on StoryGraph: mollyisfullybooked (mollyisfullybooked) Hello all! I'm Molly, and I'm from Washington, DC by way of Chicago. In college, I majored in international studies, so that is how I came to read more stories from places far and wide (Brick Lane, Daughter of the River: An Autobiography, Russian Disco,Soldiers of Salamis, and I Write What I Like: Selected Writings, to name just a few!) I studied abroad in South Africa and became fascinated with apartheid fiction and stories. Currently, I work in international development and support programs in Tanzania, South Africa, Nigeria, and Zambia. I haven't traveled to this places yet but am planning a trip out to Asia in the spring. I am so happy that I found this group because reading about other places is one of my favorite things to do. Happy reading, everyone!

Sharon | 12 comments Rosemarie - very cool! I have noticed that as well. I'm excited to get deeper into the challenge. My parents are both from different states than where we live now and I went to undergrad in a different state - so lots of connections to lots of different states! (And I don't even know what state I'm moving to for grad school yet!)

Flavio Ciabattoni Hello everybody,
I’m Flavio from Italia, I’m 28 and I’ve quit my job 2 years ago to start backpacking around the world. (I’ve visited Ecuador, Colombia, Cuba, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Iran and India).
I have now published the first book on Morocco, I had the amazing chance to live ramadan with local people, backpacking around the country for a whole month. Here it is: Morocco Unveiled: Backpacking Diaries of a European Millennial
One of my favourite travel book is The Scent of India, of Pier Paolo Pasolini (I recommend it so much especially for the depth of his reflections).
Other two books that made me “travel” with my mind was the Kite Runner of Khaled Hosseini and Love at the Time of Cholera of Garcia Marquez.
Have a nice day everyone,
Flavio

Kathleen Hi everyone,
I'm Kathleen, and have had my eye on this group for some time and finally decided to join. I'm from the US, and when younger did some extensive traveling but hope to do much more--want to go everywhere!

Until then, love to travel through books. 2019 took me from Sarajevo to South America an many places in between. My 2020 book traveling plans involve some translated works, so am anxious to join the Translated Language Challenge.

Two of my favorite around-the-world books are A Fine Balance and Zorba the Greek. Thank you for being here!

Hey everyone! I'm mom to 5 - two actual kids and three fur babies.

I love to read books by authors of all different cultures and also love to read books set in many different locations. I find reading to be incredibly transportive. This year I am using a travel map to map all of the settings of the books I read, at least all that are not sci-fi or fantasy.

I look forward to being a part of the group!

Vinnie Apicella (escape-from-america) | 4 comments Greetings all,

My name's Vinnie Apicella. I'm happy to be part of this group and appreciate the opportunities available to us here on Goodreads.

I'm a teacher, writer, and entrepreneur living in Beijing, China for the past several years. I'm originally from the US, in New York. I've been writing for more than 30 years in some form or another, but recently, I've become an official author self-publishing my first book, Escape from America: An Introspective Journey from America into China.

Thus far, it's been a busy but gratifying experience with all of the self-study involved and discovering all of these many outlets available to us, such as GR. Now that my book's gone "live" on several online shops, I've moved on to my marketing plan and trying to shift into "business" mode, so to speak. So far so good.

I do enjoy reading but will admit most of it comes from various online research or articles, and then industry-related materials. However, when personal time or travel presents itself I'll usually grab a traditional print book or use my e-reader.

Cheers guys, I look forward to interacting here in our group!

message 2639: by Monica (new)

Monica | 1 comments Hi all!
My name is Monica from a the rural Midwestern United States. I love history and am trying to read non-fiction books about every country. I'm expecting this to be a very long term goal!
If anyone has any recommendations I'd love to have them!

message 2640: by Vinnie (new)

Vinnie Apicella (escape-from-america) | 4 comments Hi Monica, nice to meet you here

I also love history and books about different countries and cultures. I currently live in China and recently published a book called Escape from America, that documents my experiences in both countries. There's much more to it than that actually, but as a starting point, both are profiled. So if I may be so bold as to recommend mine if you'd like to have a look, that would be terrific.

I'm still relatively new here and finding my way. So I'm not sure of the best approach, but I'm hoping to make new connections/friends as I go along.

Here's a link to learn more information.
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...

If you'd like to communicate a bit more, please feel free to drop me a line.

Cheers, Vinnie.
