Hi, Paul! Welcome to the group!

Hi, Rebecca! Welcome! Best of luck with your challenge!

Hi, John! Welcome to the group!

Hello, Patrick! Welcome to the group! I am so envious of the number of countries you have visited!

My name is Alix and I live in Ontario Canada. I’m new to goodreads so forgive me I’m still trying to figure out how the groups work! My fav genres are probably thrillers/suspense and romance, but I read pretty much anything except historical fiction.
Thanks for letting me be part of your group, feed free to add me! I post reviews on every book I read 🤗

Hi, Katja! That is a LOT of snow! Send some over my way, please.

I'm doing a read around the world, attempting to read at least a book from every country.
I'm looking for good read friends to help in my journey. This forum has definitely helped me loads!
Cheers
Ryan

Hi, Madeleine! Welcome to the group!
Who are your favorite New Zealand authors?

I love to read, I've been a avid bookworm since I can remember. When I was around 8-9, I gave up my top bunk to my younger sis so that I could be closer to the nightlight to read way past my bedtime - I couldn't get enough of the Black Stallion series then, I adored horses more than anything. In high school I had the same voracious reading appetite, but my book of choice was anything by Stephen King. One day my parents bought the original Dragonriders of Pern series for me because I had been collecting dragons - I had traded horses for dragons (I'm still quite fond of horses) and I fell in love with the fantasy and sci-fi world. I discovered the world of romance at my grandmother's house, on her bookshelf at the end of the hall, my favorite being historical romances. Those are the main genres that I read, but really I will read any book that sounds interesting.
Along the way I discovered Steinbeck, among others, East of Eden being one of my favorite books. My other favorites include Les Miserables, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, Phantom of the Opera (the musical as well!) and pretty much anything by Jane Austen. Favorites of Stephen King are without a doubt The Talisman and The Eyes of the Dragon, but I love everything that I have read by him (my collection is not complete yet). On the fantasy side, one of my favorite series is The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever by Stephen R Donaldson - I highly recommend it - and anything by Tolkien. As for Sci-Fi, the Mars Trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson is an amazing piece of fiction that is so realistic, you feel like you are reading about what lays before us as the future of humanity. I also enjoyed the Harry Potter series and am currently introducing those to my son.
My other hobbies include gaming, music, hiking and puzzles, when I don't have my nose in a book.

Hi, Susan! Welcome to the group! We share a lot of the same favorites in books.

It sounds like you enjoy reading just as much as I do. This group has really expanded my reading horizon. I really enjoy the challenges.

Hi, Noreen! Welcome to the group!

Great 30-Year Goal
My big goal is to read (in addition to other reading) over the next 30 years: non-fiction, historical fiction, biographies and whatever else works to learn more about the world and history, to include: 7 books on each of the 50 U.S. states (total 350), 3 books on each of the 195 nations (total 585), and, 265 books on more general or specific topics of the world such as the arctic ocean, each continent or region such as Oceania but also areas like Australasia or Melanesia, plus some people groups, some on space and the universe for a grand total of 1200.
This breaks down to about 12 per year books on states, about 20 per year on countries, about 9 per year on various.
That's the plan.
Looking forward to *meeting* many of you! Good reading!
Drae

Hello, I'm Abi. I am a highschool student and I live in the USA.
This group has a lot to offer. Whoever is in charge of making lists and keeping such a wealth of information so easy to get around has all my respect.
I'm here mostly looking to read books on Germany and Spanish speaking countries, as I am taking classes pertaining to them as well as studying their languages. I'm also interested in finding books about Asian countries (specifically Southeastern) since that's where I hail from.
Cheers.

I'm Diana, I'm 32 and currently live in Vancouver, Canada. I like to play tennis, I teach yoga and... my cat is famous on Instagram :).
I moved to Canada in 2013 and out of this experience, the hardest I've had, a book has "emerged". My wish is to make anyone's move to another country easier, faster, cheaper and more pleasant... unlike mine.
I appreciate you for being here, for reading and for being open to the world. I believe that by reading you become a better person and you contribute to a better world. Thank you for doing that :).
Much love,
Diana

Hi, Mekki! Welcome to the group! I loved A Fine Balance. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I am posting this from Houston and this is my first time here.
Not sure I am up for anything as formal as a challenge but to give an idea of wither does my reading wander
Of the books I am reading now:
England: Oranges are Not the Only Fruit
Brazil: Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands
Much of Europe and the Middle East: Pagans and Christians
France: Sentimental Education Vol 1

I've been writing so much that I haven't had a chance to read as much as I'd like. I see a lot of great titles in this travel discussion and I look forward to enjoying several of them.
I'm excited to have just published a book about this to help travelers take control of their food and water safety when traveling in the developing world. The experiences that I've had with my team have been disturbing to say the least but have also provided us a lot of beneficial information to help travelers reduce their risk of foodborne illness while traveling.
After seeing the top 50 restaurants in the world just announced, I almost fell out of my chair because we've been in a few of those restaurants. In the U.S., they wouldn't be awarded... they'd be closed due to major health violations and lack of basic infrastructure such as hand washing sinks. It's unbelievable. Those international awards and star programs don't use food safety in their evaluation criteria...
Deathly Ill: An Adventure Into the Dirty World of Haute Cuisine and International Travel

This is the first time I've ever joined an online book club. Travelling the world through books is something I've always been passionate about. So when I saw this group, I was ecstatic! I look forward to joining the challenges and conversing with you all.
Currently reading : Wolf Totem

I'm actually trying to start using Goodreads a little bit more these days and hoping to get some help with a new WITMonth project I'm working on! I'm currently compiling a list of the "100 Best Women in Translation", 100 books by women writers from around the world that were written in languages other than English. Every individual can nominate up to 10 books and I'm trying to get as many different booklovers to send in their votes! If you're interested, please feel free to message me. I feel like there might be some kindred spirits in an awesome, worldly group like this! :)
Anyways, hi!
