Hi Zsofi,
Welcome! I traveled to Europe last year, and I had the pleasure of visiting Budapest, which was definitely my favorite city on the itinerary. I have read only a couple of Hungarian authors: Sandor Marai and Magda Szabo, but they have become favorites.

Karen, I'm glad you liked Budapest :) Yes, Sandor Marai and Magda Szabo are very good. I would also suggest Zsigmond Moricz and Frenc Molnar if you don't know them already

Acinorev (acinorev2106) | 44 comments Hi everyone, I'm Veronica and I'm from Italy, but I'm moving to Canada soon.
I graduated in foreign languages and I would like to become a professional translator in the video games industry.
I speak Romanian, English, French and a bit of Portuguese (I lived in Lisbon for a while).
I love reading classics (especially British, French, Russian and Romanian), sci-fi and contemporary literature.
I'm currently reading Doctor Sleep which is my first book for this year challenge. My goal is set to 50 books.
This year I would like to read as many Canadian authors as possible (especially from Quebec), so I'm open to suggestions =)

Rosemarie | 3958 comments Hi, Veronica. I live in Toronto. Welcome to the group and to Canada.
There are so many great Canadian authors to choose from. One of the best ways to learn about books is in the public library. The books are free and the librarians can recommend books. The other way is browsing in book stores-- but that can be expensive( so many great books to buy!).

I am a bookworm and I tend to buy more books than I can possibly keep in my house. Since I want to travel light (I'm staying in Canada only for 6 months), I'll only bring 2 or 3 books with me and try not to buy too many while I'm in Canada, so I'll definitely go to the public library very often!

Hi, Veronica! Welcome to the group! That sounds like a very exciting career. We have over a thousand books shelved for Canada, most (but not all) of which are written by Canadian authors. There are a lot of great authors and books from there. Check out the Scotiabank Giller prize books, it is a great place to start. Here is the link: https://www.goodreads.com/award/show/...

Keith Sickle Hi Everyone,
My name is Keith Van Sickle and I live three months of the year in France, near the town of St.-Rémy-de-Provence. I lived and worked in French-speaking Switzerland for several years and fell in love with that part of the world.

I try to split my reading between English and French and just got my copy of "L'Arabe du future 3" - I can't wait to read it! I look forward to book recommendations from other members of the group.

I post stories about France on Medium.com and my blog (www.keithvansickle.com). One was just picked up by KQED radio (NPR) in San Francisco. I'll be reading it next week as part of their Perspectives program. I also have a book coming out soon that I'll list (as appropriate) when it's available.

Hi all! I'm Marc Joan -- English, but brought up in India, and spent a lot of time travelling between the US and EU on business...My background -- biomedical research / biotech / pharma, now consulting. I also write fiction, when I can: some of my stories are inspired by my research career, and therefore tend towards the scifi; others are inspired by my memories of India; others tend towards the horror genre; and others are straight-up literary fiction. I look forward to hearing about what you all are reading and getting to know your virtual selves!

Auntie Terror (auntie_terror) Hello,

I'm from Germany, and I'm a bookseller - and like most booksellers here, I did a bit of studying this (English) and that (philosophy) before quitting to go and make people buy books. ;)
I enjoy travellinga lot, physically as well as by book, and hiking. Travelling by book is, of course, more easily compatible to everyday life. When physically "travelling" for more than down to the supermarket, I will take at least one book along. And I'm already worried about how many books I could possibly take along the two-week-hike along the West Highland Way this year without having to leave behind something else - like the tent or the sleeping bag or other such trifles.

Looking forward to page-travel with you,
Auntie Terror

I'm looking forward to retirement because of exactly that - and excuse my manic hoarding habit with books by saying I'm stocking up for that time. ;)

I look forward to engaging with the group - both receiving and giving feedback, specially with the events related to the current state of world affairs, as well as the U.S. administration.

Thanks and hope you all have a great weekend.

Giulio Ricotti | 2 comments Hi, I'm Giulio from Italy.
I've always been an avid reader but in the last two years I got stuck with life constraints and only managed to read 4 books outside my job field!!

Planning to get back on track in 2017.

Last place I've been is in Prague with The Unbearable Lightness of Being. And I travelled from England to Spain (but mostly in France) by reading a biography of a great woman Aliénor d'Aquitaine .

Looking forward to get and provide many recommendations!

Sandra Van Looy Hi everyone,
I'm a kindergarten teacher from flanders, belgium. As most people I never have the time to do all the things I want to do...
I try to spent quality time with my husband, read some books, knitt and crochet and make lessons and endless amounts if toys for the 24 kids in my class.
During all this, our 3 cats demand their snuggle time.
