Jennifer S. Alderson (jennifesalderson) | 138 comments Hi! I've commented on posts but forgot to introduce myself. I'm an avid reader and traveler who loves to combine my passions by reading a whole lot of travel fiction. I've already found some new books through the posts in the group and look forward to discovering even more. Have a good one!

Sam Joan I recommend Kosingas by Aleksandar Tesic. Historical fantasy but quite interesting with the mix of Slavic mythology (and history) and Christianity. I suppose that since in Poland similar legends are still alive it should be worth reading.

Hi to all I haven't greeted. :)

Christine | 4 comments Hello, I'm Christine, from Baltimore, MD (USA). I'm a lifelong book addict, as are many of you. I do love to travel, and did so in my younger years. Since becoming a single mom, my travel has been more limited, so I love the idea of this group! Armchair Travelers Unite!

I'm currently reading "The Birth of Venus" by Sarah Dunant. I lived in northern Italy one summer in my 20s, and developed a permanent fascination with both modern and Renaissance Italy. I love to travel-by-book to Italy and many other places, and I know I'm going to love hearing about everyone's exploits and favorite books, here.

Diane | 13052 comments Hello, Christine! Welcome to the group! Becoming a single mom has curtailed my real-life traveling, so I can definitely relate.

Jay-me (Janet) | 14 comments Hi, I'm Janet from North West England. I love to travel and I love reading - a lot. Cooking, Cleaning and Ironing etc - not so much.

I'm just starting a new challenge to read a book set in each of the counties of England, Wales and Scotland (although I am thinking about backdating the start to the beginning of this year) I'm using a list of historical counties that I also use for my Family History Research.
Whilst looking for ideas of possible books to read I came across your group - although it does look as though you did this challenge a couple of years ago.
I've started a new blog (and transferred posts from my old blog) to help me keep track of this challenge.

Hi, Janet! Welcome to the group! I am doing that challenge myself and really enjoying it. I have compiled lists for the counties here:
England: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Northern Ireland:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Scotland:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Wales:

They are probably not 100% accurate, but a good starting place.

Geoff Hart | 2 comments Hi I'm Geoff from North Wales. I have travelled a lot within Europe and once as far as Australia. Much of this was for pleasure, but I was also professionally involved in a Europe-wide group whose aim was to improve the lives of children in need across Europe. This took me into Eastern Europe quite often which I found so interesting. Until quite recently my wife and I lived in Bulgaria for two years which was a great experience, so much so that that I have written a book about it. Bulgaria: Unfinished Business I have only just added myself to Goodreads as an author and was over the moon to find this group.
Since coming back home to Wales I have not done much traveling and am looking forward to continuing to travel through books. I hope my tale of life in Bulgaria will help you to get to know a fascinating country.
Hi to you all!

Lunaia | 9 comments Hello to you all!
I'm a humanities/social sciences student from middle Europe but currently in Finland for one semester. Although I have been an avid reader for all my life, I only got into goodreads when I started to plan my journey to the north because I decided that I want to read more in my semester abroad. After I finished my first book by a finnish author this week, I now want to try and read more books that help me to get to know this country. I hope that this group can help me to learn more about Finland and the rest of the world through books!

Hola Sam,
I lived twice in Germany—many years ago. Where do you live?
I now live in Uruguay, South America. I traveled through India in 1975 and then crossed the Indian Ocean. I look forward to reading "Between the Assassinations." I was in India during a dark period in their history.

Susan Joyce Hola from South America! I'm Susan Joyce and Uruguay is my 10th country of residence. Love traveling and exploring. Fortunately my husband also enjoys visiting other countries. I'm a writer and a reader. Have any of you ever been to Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean? I wrote about my travels there in 1975 during monsoon.

Hi Joan, I visited Bosnia-Herzegovina a month ago, and stayed in Sarajevo and in Mostar.
I can recommend you "The Cellist of Sarajevo" by Steven Galloway, spun around a true story.
If anything, it will prepare your mind for what you will meet in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Safe journey and enjoy!

Kent Babin | 2 comments Hi everyone. I'm Kent from Canada. I've lived abroad for the last 11 years (Mongolia, India, Egypt, Azerbaijan, and Indonesia) and love reading books set in exotic locales. Robert Wilson's Bruce Medway series set in Benin has to be one of my personal favourites in this regard. Looking forward to discovering more!

I also just self-published my first novel. It's an espionage thriller set in Mongolia and China. Already looking forward to writing the next one set in India.

Vaseem Khan (vaseemkhan) | 7 comments Hi all

Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I am an author and avid crime reader (the Harry Bosch series by Michael Connolly is my favourite). I write a light-hearted crime series set in India, for fans of The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency series. The first book in my series The Unexpected Inheritance of Inspector Chopra is a Times Saturday bestseller, Waterstones Book Club selection and Amazon Best Debut pick. This 2015 hit introduces readers to Inspector Ashwin Chopra of the Mumbai police as he moves through the turbulent, colourful fabric of modern Indian society in search of a murderer, whilst simultaneously coming to grips with the surreal dilemma of caring for a one-year-old baby elephant that has been sent into his care. “Endearing and gripping” ~ The Sunday Times; “Colour and atmosphere flows out of every page” ~ The Daily Express; “Utterly charming” ~ The Guardian

Currently on 99p Kindle September 2016 offer

The Unexpected Inheritance of Inspector Chopra

Ive been writing all summer - busy working on the third in the series - but managing to read a lot too. Lot of domestic noir - most of which, sadly, isn't that good. But I just read the one that started it all - Gone Girl - and thought it was terrific. So definitely a recommend from me.

I am Sabarish from India. I accidentally found this group a month ago. The idea of reading a book from each country was so fascinating that I made a list of countries that I might had read over the last two years and continued reading in that direction.
I am currently reading Birds Without Wings for Turkey.

message 2035: by Alice (new)

Alice Poon (alice_poon) Hello Everyone! I'm Alice and I'm a Hong Konger-Canadian. I'm both a reader and a writer and my favorite genre is world historical fiction. Other favorites are classics and world history (with a penchant for Chinese history). I've been on Goodreads since February 2014 and have only just stumbled on this group.

In my childhood and adolescence, I loved reading Jin Yong's (Louis Cha's) martial arts & chivalry novels, which are all set in dynastic China. That was how I was initiated into Chinese history, which became my favorite life-time subject. My Hong Kong education endowed me with bilingual ability and I was a big fan of English and Chinese Literature.

I've added some old and new titles on the thread "Books Set in Asia - China". Please feel free to check them out :)

Sara Jesus (scjesus) | 143 comments Hello! I am Sara. I´m a university student from Portugal. I have many passions. But the two more important are literature and history. I love reading. I can live withou that. My favorite books are the classics like Dickens and Austen and the histourical ficton like outlander series.
Of curse I love travel too. But I only have been in Ingland. Some day, in a long future I pretend to see the rest of the Europe and all other countries over the world.
The best way I know of travel is through books. So I happy to to belong this book group and I hope to know more countries.

Mark Colenutt Hi Jean,

There is a good collection of works concerning Spain, though it has gone wayward of late by including works in Spanish when this site is supposed to be books about Spain.

There are a lot of books shelved here and it makes for good perusing.

Welcome to the group.
