Hi, Kaisa! Welcome to the group! How wonderful that you are a translator! I am so grateful to translators for making it possible for me to read books from all over the world.

Jayme Holmes | 17 comments Hi everyone, I'm somewhat new to Goodread's groups, and I love the challenges and intro to so many books in this group. I live near Toronto, Canada, and happily got back into reading this year after too many years of letting the habit slide.

This year my main focus has been on reading Canadian authors, which I have really enjoyed. I'm ready to expand my list, and this group seems just like the perfect place to do that.

Outside of reading, I have been busy training our puppy who is now one year old and keeps me hopping.

Hi, Jayme! Welcome to the group! There are lots of wonderful Canadian authors. There are a lot of good Canadian books that have received either the Scotiabank Giller Prize and the Commonwealth Writers' Prize for Canada. Here are a couple of Goodreads links to view those books:

My team doing a "Tour" just started in Canada so we all read novels by a Canadian author. Mine was Fugitive Pieces by Anne Michaels. Several read Margaret Atwood novels, and a Linwood Barclay.

Kathleen Hi Jyotsna! Hi Kaisa! Hi Audrey! Welcome.
I really like your website, Jyotsna.

message 1958: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Hello there, my name is Sarah and I've been lurking for about a month. Amsterdam will be my first read with the group but I'll probably be quiet until I get a feel for how things work. Then you pretty much won't be able to get me to shut up :)

I've been looking for novels from, or set in, other countries and I was very excited to find this particular group. I'm also planning on reading High Tide and The Sirens of Baghdad.

I have to admit that I've not read all that many Canadian books yet, maybe a few. So far my goals have been more centred around expanding my reading to other parts of the world that are non-US, British, Russian, French... But I should set myself a Canadian challenge of some kind some time. :) I've been meaning to read some Atwood.

Kathleen Hello Sarah Anne. Welcome.

I just finished reading "Any Known Blood" and "The Illegal" both by Canadian author Lawrence Hill and "Medicine Walk" by Canadian First-Nations author Richard Wagamese. I enjoyed all three novels and recommend them.

message 1964: by Zoe (new)

Zoe | 2 comments Hello! I'm fairly new to Goodreads and am still finding my way around (I'm also not sure how I feel about the booklogging aspect of it...) but I'm liking the groups. I love to read literature from around the world; I've read some fantastic books from the Balkans lately, and my dad started my love affair with Latin American literature by giving me a copy of Borges' Fictions when I was 19.

I love the diversity of perspectives, styles, and themes you can find by reading books from many different countries and not sticking to authors from your home country. Not that British literature isn't great, but I want to branch out!

message 1965: by Kathleen (new)

message 1967: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Bea (gekrepten) Hi! I found this group in my updates feed. :) I've always loved reading but the past few years I've been getting more into it. For a while my attention span couldn't even handle a book. This year I may finally reach my 50 book goal! I've been making it a point this year to read more women authors, aiming for a diverse bookshelf so I think this group will be good for me! The last book I read was a children's book by Linda Sue Park called Forest of Wonders and I'm currently reading a sci-fi book I won in a goodreads giveaway.

I'm also into writing, particularly short stories at the moment, and I like to read and write spec lit (horror and sci fi). I live in Brooklyn, NY with my boyfriend and our two cats. What else? I work in the TV industry and I enjoy running and playing online games.

message 1968: by George P. (new)

George P. | 116 comments Hi Zoe! I feel much the same way now about reading more diverse literature. I just read Borges' Ficciones, and I am 63, so you're way ahead of me. I just finished a Kafka, and am reading novels by a Peruvian, a French and an American writer (still read one of those occasionally :) And 2 of those are women writers. Welcome.

message 1971: by Ottavio (new)

Ottavio Gesmundo | 4 comments Hello everyone.

My name is Ottavio Gesmundo and I am a traveling entertainer who happens to live in Las Vegas when I am not on the road. I am currently reading The Fall of the Ottomans, which I picked up in London. It is a very well researched book and fascinating read. I think I was drawn to it because of my grandfather's memoirs, which I just self-published last month. He also fought in WWI against the central powers in the Italian Army and had travelled extensively as a circus performer through the Middle East after the fall of the Ottoman Empire.

I've been to 25+ countries including living in Barcelona, Spain while in college and it's a bucket list goal of mine to visit every state in the country. I have a lot of states under my belt and mainly need to tackle the middle part of the country. I also am a travel blogger whenever I get a chance (www.LindsayAmanda.com). Filipa (fiwipa) | 34 comments Hello!
I currently live in Ethiopia and will be shortly moving to Mexico, found this book when searching about books for these countries.
I'll be joining in reading The Corpse Washer, starting this Tuesday.

There's a great Travel books collection in my home country of Portugal, by publisher Tinta da China, that is inspired by a great quote:
"The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page."
Augustine of Hippo
https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/6193...

I bet this group will help me and many others do just that!
Thanks Diane for your hard work!

June Austin | 2 comments I'm June. I am from the county of Surrey in southeast England and have doing the Around the World Reading Challenge for about 4 years now, having completed about 130 or so different countries during that time. My favourite books though are always Icelandic. I have been to Iceland 8 times now and love everything about the place - especially their books and their beer !

Sam I think I haven't introduced myself yet. I'm Sam, native of Poland. I love diverse reading, especially reading local authors. By education I'm culture studies expert, with the focus on Asia and Africa. But being a Slav I'm also interested in Slavic authors. I can read in several languages, but since using mainly libraries I mostly read in Polish, sometimes in English.

Nice to meet you all.

Josie (jostephine) | 1 comments Hi all! Josie here. I was born in Indonesia to a father from HK SAR, but raised in Malaysia and the UK. I have very strong cultural affiliations to all four of my countries. I read in English, Indonesian, Spanish and Russian (I picked up the last two by living in St. Petersburg and Madrid) and will hopefully add Japanese and Chinese to my reading repertoire. I am currently going crazy over Soviet satire (particularly those depicting dystopian societies), and Japanese Meiji literature. I am looking to read about the Arab world and Sub-Saharan Africa, and will be looking out for potential titles in this group. Thanks for having me :)
