That's so true. Geocaching has lead to a lot of traveling for me. Mostly in the US, though.

Allie | 3 comments Hi!
I'm Allie. I'm 21 years old and I'm from Kansas. I just realized my love of books a few years ago and it has completely erupted from there. I'm very, very shy so I don't have a large group of friends; that's why I'm wanting to be a part of this group to at least meet new people. I'm working towards getting my Masters of Library Science degree and either working in a public library or a school library setting. :)

Hi, Kathleen! Welcome to the group! I would love to work in a bookshop, but I'm afraid that very little work would get done and my list of books to read would get more out of control than it is now (oh, but I'd love it!).

Billy O'Callaghan | 2 comments Hi, everyone! I just found this group and I am delighted to join. It's really only this year that I've become active on Goodreads but I try to review one or two books every week. I have a wide range of reading interests, but am particularly drawn to books in translation, or set in foreign climes. I also love short stories, poetry and novellas. So it feels like I've come to the right place!

Meryl Urson (merylurson) | 1 comments Hello Everyone -and especially Sam from Germany! I'm brand new to Goodreads, to partial tech literacy and to this group. When I saw Sam's comment about reading on India, I thought I might say I've been there many times and finally wrote my own book about it, Way out in India. If you enjoy the quirkier aspects of a place and a good laugh, I've tried to provide it in the book. Lovely to 'meet' you all and I look forward to some virtual travel through your comments.

Krystal (queenravenclaw) There's a lot more authors than musicians in Croatia which is crazy cause I like listening to new age Croatian music. Not stuff my mom has known for years but the new cool stuff. New artists come out every year.

Jay (jayjoelh) Hello fellow group members :) I'm Jayne from Malaysia. I've opened an account with Goodreads for more than 3 years and my main activity was to update my reading progress and also to read reviews on books. Not an active user I'd say as I only log in few times a week. I've been browsing the Group tab and stumbled onto, 'Around the World in 80 Books'. The title got me attracted like a magnet, so I went ahead and clicked on the 'Join group' button and here I'm dropping few lines of brief intro. I enjoy reading and my kind of read are thrillers and also those which consist foreign elements i.e. cultures, history, language, etc. So, that's few info about me. Have a nice day

Ellen Hello everyone. I'm new to Goodreads and this group. Although I'm too late in the year to join in with one of the official challenges, I'm trying to read 80 books on my own over the course of the next year or so. I was thinking of joining in for the discussion of Wolf Hall - not sure how that works, but thought it might be a good way to tick England off of my list and hear what other folks have to say about the book. Cheers - Ellen

Welcome to the group, Ellen! It is never too late to join a challenge. Most of the challenges have an option without time limits that let you go at your own pace. I will be opening discussion for Wolf Hall on August 15 in the "Group Reads Discussions" section. I look forward to seeing what far away places your books take you.

Hi my name is Kathy and it took me a little while to find this group, glad that I'm finally here.
I love travelling and reading -- combining the two is enhances both! eg: in Spain I read Giles Tremlett's The Ghosts of Spain and in Malta I read Nicholas Montsarrat's The Kappillan of Malta. Unfortunately I won't be on the road again for awhile but I can still read. Just finished a delightful book about Bulgarian folk traditions - 'Love, Light, Rituals' by Ronesa Aveela. Bulgaria is now definitely on my travel bucket list.

message 1678: by Jana (new)

Jana (janoona) Hey you guys! I'm glad I've stumbled over your group. It's always exciting sharing your own experiences with others. Especially when it's something you're really passionate about.

So for me, it's definitely diving right into cultures, traveling, exploring and such. I'm a psychology student from germany and take my major in criminology. Sadly, Ive never been to another country in the long run. From what I've read in books England, Ireland and Scottland seem lovely places to go to somewhen.
So let's see what'll come out of it :)!

message 1679: by G (new)

G | 1 comments Hello! I've submitted to this group few days ago but I didn't know there was a place where I had to introduce myself, sorry.
Anyway, I'm Gea, I'm 19 and I'm from Italy (that's the reason for my bad english, sorry). I love travelling and, when I can't do it, I read to travel "virtually".
When I have to go somewhere I start searching books over books about that place (like I went to Berlin this summer and I have something like 10 books about it) (read 2 for now).
So, that's it, have a nice day!

Rochelle | 2 comments Hello, I like to think that I am an avid reader, but I have a job and other hobbies that prevent me from reading 100% of the time. I really enjoy reading books that have a sense of place that either makes me remember being there or inspires me to want to go there! I think that joining a group like this one will encourage me to get out of my rut (China, India, Japan and Europe are favorite places to read about) and read about more places. By profession I am a librarian in a community college and a volunteer at a local history museum.

My name is Tony. I'm originally from New Zealand, I've lived for the last year in The Netherlands and I currently live in Scotland. I've been furiously working on my new (and first) book about how many times Bolivia tried to kill us on our recent travels! With that nearly complete I hope to get a little more involved on this site. Depending on sleeping hours of a brand new family member (due 2 weeks) of course. Cheers for having me :-)
