Hi, Camilla! Welcome to the group! Northern Norway must be so beautiful. How cold does it get in the winter?

I'm Jim from New Jersey and joined this group because it seems interesting. I haven't read around the world yet and have never traveled outside of North America, but it's worth a shot!

Camilla Davidsen Hi Diane, Northern Norway is quite picturesque with the high mountains covered in snow. It can be cold here, about minus 10-15 degrees Celsius (don't know what that is in Farenheit) and even lower in other areas. However, last summer was hot, nearly 30 degrees C. Perfect weather for a swim in the Norwegian fjords! :)

message 1559: by Camilla (last edited Apr 07, 2015 06:12AM) (new)

Camilla Davidsen * minus 10-15 degrees Celsius is about 14-5 F. Some places it can be as low as -4 F or lower. 30 degrees C is about 86 F. (Thank you Google, for having an answer to my questions...)

Thanks for the beautiful visual, Camilla. It sounds like such a lovely place. The weather is warmer than I would have expected. Sounds like my kind of place!

I am new to this website, but I am an avid reader. I am in the Navy and currently live in Georgia. I love traveling, and have been to many places. I am excited to read these books!

message 1563: by Jim (new)

Jim Townsend | 33 comments Good evening!

Spent three summers as a kid visiting my grandmother in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, so was immersed in the metric system. 0 C is 32 F, the freezing point of water; and 100 C is 212 F, the boiling point. From either point, every degree C is 1.8 F. The only temperature at which the two temperature scales match is -40.

Liselott | 19 comments Hi everyone! After all this time here on GR and I have just discovered this group!! Yay, so happy!!
I'm Liselott & im Swedish, though I've been living abroad for more than half my life now. I've been 'stationed' in East London for the last 17 years and before that in Rome for quite a few years. I love travelling, languages & foreign cultures. To read books set in different parts of the world is my passion. I'm not in a position of travelling due to an injury and economically because I lost my main income because of that too. So this is really exciting!
:):):)

Mal Adams Hello everyone.

I'm an Englishman with an American wife and we now live in the North East of England. We have two young daughters who keep us busy and drastically curtail my reading time!

I love exploring the world through the printed word and I'm always eager to hear other peoples' opinions on whatever I am reading or have read, so I'm looking forward to making good use of this group.

Karen Michele Burns (klibrary) | 45 comments Hi everyone! I'm Karen in Washington State, and although I retired this year from my job as a high school librarian, I am re-connecting with the adult literature I love and looking for deeper discussion about those books now that I have more time to read. I love contemporary fiction and historical fiction. I also enjoy classics, but not a steady diet of just older works. I enjoy reading authors in a balance of genders and cultures as well. I'm looking forward to participating in the group and visiting many different countries!

Hi, Julianna! Welcome! Reading and traveling are my favorite things to do, too. You have some great goals. Being multi-lingual would be awesome. Not only could you speak the language in many of your travels, you could also read all those great books that haven't been translated into English! ;)

Caitlin (caitydid81) Hi, everyone!
My name is Caitlin and I am a newish resident of Seattle, WA (we moved here just under a year ago). Washington is actually the 6th state I've lived in. I really love reading and travelling. My bachelor's degree is in anthropology so I have a fascination with other countries and cultures. My most recent foreign travel was to Italy (Florence, Cinque Terre, Bologna, and Venice) in the fall. I've also been to France, Mexico, Canada, and French Polynesia. My husband and I are hoping to travel to Japan next year. This group sounds like a great opportunity to expand my reading!

A terrible 7.8 scale earthquake has hit my country Nepal with the aftershocks still continuing. Many of our houses and temples have been reduced to ashes and thousands are dead, dying and trapped. Many more are hungry and homeless and we need all the help you can give. Your help and donation can make all the difference in the world. Please Donate what you can and if you cannot donate then pray for us.
