Sandi Hello, I'm Sandi and I'm new to this group, and I love to read books set in other places, especially historical fiction. I'm a school librarian so I read kid's books and adult books; usually I'm reading more than one book at a time. Recent reads that fit this topic are The Fever Tree by Jennifer McVeigh, set in 1880 South Africa, The Princes of Ireland (and sequel The Rebels of Ireland) by Edward Rutherfurd, covering 17 centuries of Irish history (wanted to read this before our trip to Ireland), and Teatime for the Firefly by Shona Patel, set in 1940s India. I'm looking forward to hearing what others are reading and add to my "to read" list.

Josh Caporale (caponomics) | 15 comments Hi,

My name is Josh and I am an English major from New Jersey. My dream is to become a successful horror/speculative fiction writer, for my two favorite hobbies to do in the world are write and read. I am also a blogger and participate in a literature-based web show.

I must say that I really enjoy the structure of this group and especially find it intriguing that you select an American, British, and other country each month. I hope to follow along with what is on the reading list as much as possible.

message 1514: by Mary (new)

Mary (fruity) Hi everyone. I'm new here. I've decided to read an author from every country which is going to take me a while. My husband heard about this group on book tube and said it might be a good place to get some book suggestions.
I'm from Australia. I've been a life long reader but have decided it's time to fill my imagination with some new voices instead of the usual English speaking ones.

Jeannine K Lockwood | 12 comments Greetings to all. I'm retired, an anthropologist by training, and an avid reader and traveler. In high school I lived in Argentina for a year as a foreign exchange student, and I consider that my second home. As a Marine Corps wife I lived on Okinawa and traveled throughout Asia; also Europe. I went to Russia to train professionals from around the former Soviet Union in family strengthening. With my current husband we are tracing our family genealogy in England and Ireland. This is the perfect reading group for me!

Carla Power | 1 comments Hi,

I'm a UK-based American journalist and author with chronic wanderlust. Since having my first child 13 years ago, I've had to curb my travel a bit, so reading--particularly about India, Pakistan, and Egypt--has been a huge help! Carla

message 1527: by Melinus (last edited Mar 19, 2015 05:52AM) (new)

Melinus | 1 comments Hi and a welcome to my previous introducer Carla.
I travel a lot, I read a lot and I like to explore both of those things together. Which means I read while I travel and each time I read, I travel in the books.
I do not particularly pick a book based on the country it takes place, but it is nice to explore a new city or place through reading. A couple months ago I thought it would be cool to have a data base where you can choose you book based on location ... and here we are: I joined this group. So thanks for creating the group and for having me.

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 123 comments Hi! My name is Pam and I live in New Mexico. I realized that most of the books I have been reading this year are set outside of the US so I thought this would be a fun challenge. I recently acquired over 100 free books, many are world fiction, from a local bookstore that closed down. I am excited to read them and find more books set in other countries! Once I get a passport, I can actually do some traveling outside the US.
