Yes, I have been there twice, most recently being last year. It is one of my favorite islands. Is it true that it is safe from hurricanes because of where it is located?

message 1472: by Joel (new)

Joel Mount I am new to the group. My name is Joel. Divorced dad of 2 grown girls. I like mystery, thriller, historical fiction amongst other categories.

One question- Currently reading Edge of Eternity by Follett. It's 1100 pages and set in Russia, East Germany, and the US, primarily with occasional forays into Cuba, London and VietNam. I am considering counting it as 2 countries at least (Russia and US) and maybe count Germany too. Any thoughts?

If I were counting it for a challenge, I would select one of the countries were most of the book took place and count it.

message 1474: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 1 comments Hi all! My name is Sarah, I am currently studying for my a-levels and hope to study geography at uni. I love reading and am trying to spend more time doing it this year! I really enjoy reading books about and from different countries and just generally learning about other cultures so this group sounds awesome :) I am about to start reading the Bookseller of Kabul which is obviously very fitting with this group but some others on my list this year include Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy as well as quite a lot of more general geography books (sort of counts haha). Can't wait to hopefully get some great reading ideas from this group!
Sarah :)

Maurice Miller (mauricegmiller) | 13 comments Hi Everyone, I'm Maurice from New England and finally done shoveling out from the Blizzard of 2015. New to Goodreads, this is the first group I've joined. I love the concept of reading books with locations based around the world. After only a few hours on Goodreads, I've realized I am woefully deficient in the amount of fiction I have read recently. Looking forward to jumping in with the group's February selections.

message 1486: by Anneke (new)

Anneke Alnatour | 248 comments Hi,
I'm a mother of three, currently living in Canada, but born and raised in The Netherlands. Love travelling, and with 3 young kids I have to pursue this interest through books, movies, music and so on.... The joys of motherhood!
I do love to read though, and I still manage to read a lot and am looking forward to new journeys through stories!

message 1487: by Cari (new)

Cari D I'm Cari Dobbins and I can sit down & read a book in one day. It's almost an addiction. When I was young I read mostly fantasy, graduated to horror in my high school years, sci-fi in college, & cheesy romance as a young mom. Nearing my 40s I find my favorite stories take me on an adventure somewhere new. I want comedy, adventure & romance all rolled up into one. But I'm pretty demanding of the characters, they have to be interesting, intelligent, fierce & believable. I also read about 50-75% non-fiction because I love to learn.

message 1488: by Chrisi (new)

Chrisi | 3 comments hello everyone, my name is chrisi and I just joined this club because I love both reading and travelling (I haven't travelled a lot yet since i'm only 17 years old, but I'm definitely planning on exploring a lot of different places.) I live in austra and my mother tongue is german but I'm trying to improve my english and also love reading books in foreign languages ^^ (currently only able to do so in English, but I will be able to do it in French and Russian one day)

I love connecting with people who enjoy reading as much as I do. Hope to meet people from around the globe, as I love to learn about other cultures! Nice to meet everyone!
