Sally906 | 24 comments G'day all

My name is Sally, I live in Australia, and I joined the group back in 2012, but hanging head in shame I haven't been active at all - I have been 'reading around the world in 80 books' as a personal challenge for a few years now on my own - got a bit bogged down and pushed it to one side (easy to do with personal challenges - LOL) I have kept track of my countries and books - have done well with Europe and Africa - stalled when I turned to South America and realised I didn't like any of the books at the public library - so am making a concerted effort to start up again.
I will create a personal thread with the books I've already completed - then as a personal 2015 challenge I will finish that trip and start another one. Eyeing off reading around United Kindgdom as a distinct possibility - place of my birth :)
Anyhow, just wanted to reintroduce myself :)

Jo (Recniky) | 1 comments I'm looking forward to sharing with this group. I've recently finished reading Anne Perry's book The Sheen on the Silk, which would be a fantastic book to discuss.

Jean Hi,
I am Jean and I'm looking forward to traveling the world through books with this group.

message 1410: by Teresa Jo (new)

Teresa Jo (teresajo) Hi! I am Teresa from Texas and love reading, although I don't have much time these days. I have two grown children, three cats, and a dog, along with a husband of many years. My preferred genres are science fiction, fantasy, light paranormal, romance and women's literature, and sometimes chick-lit. I work part-time and went back to school to finally finish my degree, which will be done in one more semester. I like the idea of reading around the world as travel is something I have always wanted to do more often. Growing up I lived all over Texas, Alabama, Georgia, Alaska, and Seoul (South Korea). My oldest is currently backpacking through Asia, after living in Seoul for a year. She will be home the end of January and will be able to check Korea, Japan, China, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, India, Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia off of her bucket list. And she just turned 25 this week. So while she travels "for real", I will travel "by book".

Martha (marthas48) Hi! I'm Martha and I live in central Illinois. I love reading and have been working on a state challenge. This group was recommended to me as a way to get more ideas for state books and meet people who enjoy these challenges. I also love the idea of reading around the world.

Alex Morritt (alexmorritt) | 13 comments Hi, I'm Alex. This looks like a very interesting group. I have two books in both print & digital formats that may be of particular interest to members of this group: Glimpses of Guatemala published in mid 2012 and Guises of Guyana published in mid 2013. I also have a recently released short story collection Impromptu Scribe in Kindle edition (November 2014) with short stories from all around the world. 'Words in the Wind' - one such story set in Guatemala, was recently published in the November edition of 'Revue' magazine. It is accessible via the 'Read Excerpt' icon beneath my book's cover image. I look forward to participating and meeting more of you. Thanks.

message 1420: by Marina (new)

Marina (sonnenbarke) | 30 comments Hi everybody!

I've just discovered this group and I already love it! :-)

My name's Marina, I'm a 32-year-old technical translator from Italy. I have also lived in Luxembourg.
I love travelling but, as some of you said, I don't get to do it as much as I'd like to, so I'm travelling through books instead.
I have started a challenge of my own last year, i.e. to read one book written by an author from each of the countries of the world. I have read almost 60 books so far and it has been fun! I've discovered so many authors and stories I wouldn't have gotten to know otherwise.

Now I want to explore the group a bit and then take part on its many activities. I'm sure I'll feel at home here!

message 1421: by Mary (new)

Mary McFarland (marymcfarlandauthor) Hi, Marina, and welcome. I love it that you're doing a book written by an author from each of the world's countries. What a nice gift to yourself. Good to see you here. Mary

Hi, Marina! Welcome! I look forward to seeing what you have read. Do you have any recommendations for authors from Luxembourg?

message 1423: by Marina (new)

Marina (sonnenbarke) | 30 comments I can't say there are many authors from Luxembourg, it's such a tiny country! But I really like Anise Koltz, she's a poet who writes in German and French and it seems there's a couple of bilingual books in French and English: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anise_Koltz.

message 1424: by Tytti (new)

Tytti | 27 comments Hi, I just joined this group because I am trying to read books from different countries, obviously. This past year I have mainly collected them or their titles at least, maybe this year I will actually read some of them. I usually try to read books written by authors from those countries, because I have noticed that there are some "weird" books out there from my own native country, Finland. I am very interested in history so I want the facts to be as correct as possible.

I am still trying to figure things out but maybe I will start with as a Tourist, trying to become a Frequent Flyer but will probably end up as a Rogue Traveler and next year a Circumnavigator. My emphasis will be in Europe, probably, because I already have many books set there on my list.

Hello, my name is Theresa, I live in England and I'm half Irish. I glad I stumbled across this group as one of my reading aims this year was to read more books from around the world....so I bought more than I should have in an ebook sale, as you do :)

Hi, Theresa! I know all about buying more than I should at an ebook sale. The beauty of ebooks, though, is that they don't take up valuable shelf space in your bookcases. Happy reading!

message 1431: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello, Diane, nice to meet you. I've noticed with ebooks that it's easier to accumulate lots of unread books on those virtual shelves too. This year I'm determined to whittle down that TBR pile :)

Good luck! The sad truth is that I can buy a book a lot faster than I can read one.

Kirsten (ringwraith10) Hey there! I'm aaaalmost finished with my Master's of Arts in English Literature (just got to get the darn thesis finished) and I'm an Interlibrary Loan Coordinator (not officially a librarian since I don't have the right degree -- just a Library Associate). I love experiencing different cultures -- I'm still considering getting my PhD in Anthropology or Archaeology. This group seems perfect for me since I love to read books from around the world.
