Edith | 1 comments Hello! I'm Edith, native North Carolinian transplanted to New York decades ago and happily living in Brooklyn. I just discovered Goodreads and this travel book club. I just purchased several books about female adventure or science travelers and am about to launch into reading them. The keystone book is Women Travelers: A Century of Trailblazing Adventures 1850-1950. I have traveled widely in the U.S., and have visited a number of far-flung islands and coasts in the Caribbean and Pacific for scuba diving. I really want to see Australia and New Zealand.

Hello, Edith! Welcome to the group! I hope you will enjoy your recent acquisitions about women travelers. Sounds like very interesting reading.

I love to travel and have been lucky enough to at least briefly visited a number of places; Egypt, Israel, China, Thailand, London, Paris, Belgium as well as my home country of course. I'm completing my Honours in History and work at a florist. I love to read true travel stories from pretty much anywhere as well as fiction set in any country, I'm not fussy!

Rita Gardner | 20 comments Hi Danielle - I'm also entranced by Eduardo Galeano; even met a writer who knew him (in Uruguay,I think!)a number of years ago. Since you're interested in Latin America, I hope you read my new memoir, about growing up on a coconut plantation in the Dominican Republic during the rule of a dictator. Title: "The Coconut Latitudes: Secrets, Storms and Survival in the Caribbean." Launch date is Sept 16; there have already been many advance reviews on Goodreads.

I am actually new to using this site and a bit lost in this group, but I hope I will get the hang of it. I am interested in expanding my horizons and read books from other places, because I have been quite limited to just a few countries in my reading so far.

Mercedes Lucero | 1 comments Hi, My name is Mercedes, from Argentina; I recently joined goodreads and i was interested in a cool bookgroup, to get recommendations and expand my library. I am quite focused on USA and UK literature, but i'd like to read books from different countries.

I have just finished To kill a mockingbird, and I started Catch 22.

In case you're interested in some Latin American literature, i'd be glad to chip in my suggestions for a book of the month.

Chris Hapka (chapka) | 2 comments Hello, all. I love the idea of this group. For the last few years, I've been mapping some of the books I read at a web site called The Atlas of Fiction.

I'm not sure if I'll try for 80 in a year, but I'll definitely be mining the "Books Set In..." section to try to fill in some of the blank spaces on the map!

Hi, Melanie. Welcome to the group! I honestly don't know of a tutorial for Goodreads or for groups in general. There really should be one. There really is a lot to the website. I have been on the site for a few years and I am still finding and learning new things here. It can be overwhelming. If I do find a tutorial, I will certainly let you know.

Hi, I'm Darlene. I'm in process of cataloguing my huge book collection and desire to read more books from around the world. Your group looks like just the thing for me. I'm intending to keep a log of books read and do this for at least a year. I may be watching the group until the end of the year, participating in a few book discussions as I read along and jumping in in 2015 with more participation. I hope this will be okay with the group.

Jeffrey (jeffreymarcusoshins) | 1 comments 40 years agoJeremy Gold author:Jeremy Gold|8111378] I set off from California to backpack to Buenos Aires and back. Six months and 12,400 miles later when I returned, I wrote a travelogue and novel about our adventures. I then proceeded to put the books away and pretty much forgot about them until my son found them. He enjoyed them so much that I took a look at them and found them to be a time capsule that captured a way of seeing the world and a time and place when life on Earth was less globalized.
Hippies in the Andes/Freedom Pure Freedom
tries to preserve that innocent voice and is pretty much exactly how the books were written 39 years ago.

T.K. Naliaka Hello. I'd like to introduce myself and explain that I am a new indie published author on Amazon Kindle. In Time of PerilA Difficult Damsel to Rescue. T.K. Naliaka. They are all ages, clean action-adventures at a globally affordable price (at least I intended that!) and I'd love to make them known to an international audience.
I've lived most of my life now in Africa, with a time in India, so I have a lot of normal, everyday experience on both continents, in both anglophone and francophone countries.
I didn't intend to overwrite on the first hello, but once I figure out how all this works, and when the power is on here, I hope to join in on discussions, maybe answer questions people may have about the parts of Africa I am familiar with, to read and ask other folks here their opinions and inputs. Many thanks! T.K. Naliaka

Barbara Lloyd | 4 comments Hello all. I'm Barbara and have just joined Goodreads and this group was suggested to me. I have just joined a reading group and we are reading A Place of Meadows and Tall Trees which begins in Wales in the 1840s and tells the story of the first emigrants to Patagonia. I live in Wales and I already knew of the settlement that still exists of a Welsh speaking community in Patagonia but am hoping this book will bring that story to life.

Srividya Vijapure (theinkedmermaid) | 44 comments Hi. I am Srividya and am from India. Currently am a stay at home mom with a really active 7 year old daughter who takes up a lot of my time but also shares my love for reading.

I love traveling, although I haven't really traveled as much as I would have loved to. However, I have traveled vicariously, both through books and my husband, who travels a lot for work and is often in really interesting places.

I have always been interested in reading books about different countries, both fiction as well as non fiction and I was planning on getting to it seriously from 2015, when I stumbled upon this group and found it a perfect place to experience and share these journeys.

So looking forward to having a great journey around the world in the future through books and if time and tide permits, I hope I can really travel to all these place. Hoping for some great conversations on books and travels with all of you.
