Rita Gardner | 20 comments Hello - I just joined Goodreads. I grew up in the Dominican Republic (although I am US-born) and love to read memoirs and books by expats all around the world. One of my favorite authors is Alexandra Fuller. I just completed my own memoir (to be published fall 2014), it's titled "The Coconut Latitudes: Secrets,Storms and Survival in the Caribbean." I think I'm OK saying this and it isn't "flagrant self-promotion." Rita

Lizzie Williams (lizziewilliams) | 3 comments Hi everyone! I'm Lizzie... I have joined the goodreads few days ago...and fortunately I got 1friend already:)) have also tried to join this group. Prettly much new to this, so I'm excited to find good books, fill my bookshelves and hoping to have a bunch of friends who's into reading and listening. By the way, I'm from Philippines but temporarily living in Qatar for my job here. I'm not a fast reader, and only got my interest in YA books a month ago when I started reading the I Am Number Four sequel. I found out that reading fictions are quicker than nonfictions.

(what a long introduction..)

Welcome to the group, Yusra! Wow, I can already tell that you have a gift for writing! I loved the way you described your home country. It sounds very beautiful. All places have their good and bad qualities. One of the things I love about reading literature and memoirs about other countries is that I get to read about all the beauty that exists in every corner of the world, and not just the less than pleasant stuff the media often portrays. Books also help us to see just how much people in other places are just like we are. I think it is wonderful that you are pursuing your dreams and following your heart and that your parents are being so supportive. I wish you much success in your dream to become a writer.

Hi, Melissa! To post a book cover, click on the "add book/author" link on top of the comment box. Click the dot that says "cover" at the bottom of the menu box. Type in the book you want to post in the search field and hit the search button. Hit the "add" button next to the book you want. That will embed the bookcover in your post.

Paul Lovell (powerpuffgeezer) | 4 comments Please add this to your to-read list...

PAULYANNA INTERNATIONAL RENT-BOY

Discover what goes on behind the glassy eyed smile of a male street worker. A stereotypical cliché? Perhaps.

I attempt to knock away any preconceptions about damaged goods using plain spoken truth. No added glam or grit, this is my unapologetic story. A social history report. (of sorts).

Includes many Travel-writer type descriptions to various locations. Regards PDL
