I want to learn more and I hope to do it through reading..."Hi, Lindsey! Welcome to the group! One history book I really enjoyed was The Secret History of the Mongol Queens: How the Daughters of Genghis Khan Rescued His Empire. I'm sure there were quite a few more, but that is all that is currently coming to mind.
Hello everyone! My name is Kate - I am from a small town in New England and am currently living in South Korea as an English teacher. I'd love to meet more people from Korea, and around the world. I love travel and would like to see more of the world than I already have - books are a great way to at least get a taste of other cultures!
Please feel free to contact me anytime :)

Hello, my name is Cathy. I live in CT and I am home on medical leave. I am a middle school/high school teacher with a library media specialist certification. I miss doing book clubs with my students and I thought I'd try a book club here! I love to travel and honestly, I've read mostly young adult fiction, so it is about time I try adult literature:) I look forward to joining the book discussion in February. Thanks!
Cathy wrote: "Hello, my name is Cathy. I live in CT and I am home on medical leave. I am a middle school/high school teacher with a library media specialist certification. I find myself reading a lot more YA since I started teaching MS (and having two adolescent kids in the house!). I'm so glad you have joined our group.
Hi, I'm Veronica and I live in Italy. I love travel and read international fiction, so I love the idea of this group!
Mave wrote: "Hi, I'm Veronica and I live in Italy. I love travel and read international fiction, so I love the idea of this group!"Welcome to the group, Veronica!
Hello,Nice to meet so many people who enjoy travelling through books, just as I do. My name is Alex, from Kiev, Ukraine. Now I live in Israel.

Hello, Alex! So nice to have you here with us!
My husband was in the Air Force in 1970 and we traveled all over Europe the six years we were stationed in Italy and Germany. It opened up a whole new world for us. Happiness is an updated passport and travel plans! When I don't get to travel, I enjoy reading about places outside of my home in Texas.
Hi, I'm Stacia & love reading books by authors from all over the world. Last year, I did a 'continental' reading challenge for myself & read at least one book from each continent. In many cases, I read several books per continent. (I usually tried to have the author be from the location, as well as the book itself being set in the area.) I've found some great publishers this way (Europa; Archipelago) & have totally enjoyed my armchair travels. Looking forward to finding some great reading ideas here! :-)
Hi, I'm Christine in Minnesota. I'm excited to participate in this group, although I don't think I'd ever complete any of the annual challenge so I will probably go the circumnavigator route. I'm looking forward to reading around the world!
Glenda wrote: "Happiness is an updated passport and travel plans! "Welcome, Glenda! I love your quote. The '70's were probably a fabulous time in which to see Europe.

Christine wrote: "Hi, I'm Christine in Minnesota. I'm excited to participate in this group, although I don't think I'd ever complete any of the annual challenge so I will probably go the circumnavigator route. I'm..."Hello, Christine! I look forward to seeing where your books will take you in 2014!
Hi, I'm Anne (Fenwick). I was so excited to find this group, I couldn't wait to set up my Circumnavigator thread before introducing myself. I used to live in SE France, then traveled round the world overland for two years. Just now, I'm grounded in London, and looking for a literary outlet for my travel addiction. I'm a writer and translator, with one daughter and a husband. Happy travels to you all.

Hi, I am René from Michigan in the United States. I love reading books set in different places and memoirs from people that live in or travel in other places.!!

There are so many members! Anyway, I'm a psychology doctoral student in New Orleans and I'm originally from Florida. I like to avoid working on my dissertation sometimes by reading books for fun. I also listen to audio books sometimes if I have a long drive. I love to travel and I think this group is awesome. I look forward to the selections!
Moira wrote: "There are so many members! Anyway, I'm a psychology doctoral student in New Orleans and I'm originally from Florida. Oh, but isn't it just fabulous to be able to escape into a good book!
Hey, I'm Leila. I'm a junior in high school, looking for some good reads to distract from all the stress. Since I'm in AP Art, when I work on my concentration pieces I like to listen to audiobooks. Right now I'm listening to A Confederacy of Dunces. I love traveling and seeing new places and can't wait for the selections from this group.

Hi Everybody! I am very happy to join Around the World in 80 Books, because of my joy of reading as well as those other two qualities embedded in your title, wanderlust and your group's namesake: I am thrilled to play the part of Passepartout on this sojourn. I have lived and worked in as diverse places as Yellowstone National Park, Washington DC, Oman and Singapore and would be very happy to talk about the books I wrote (one, a travel guide, the other, fiction) in the appropriate sections. Let's see where this goes next!

Peter wrote: "and your group's namesake: I am thrilled to play the part of Passepartout on this sojourn..."Welcome to the group. It's funny, I'm just reading that book with Passepartout now. He isn't the most enthusiastic of travelers so far, poor thing, but it's early days...
Happy reading - and writing.
hell, my name's Tammie and I live in England. I really like the idea of this reading group but am a bit confused where to begin. Do I look at master list of places and books and just choose as I go along or is there a system?
Oh %#$&! Hi Tammie: I'm new to this group too. You need to need to contact one of the moderators like Diane (see above). Also, I just took a web course on how to use Goodreads by Cathy Presland and Michelle Booth. You can find them here on Goodreads and on FB.Regards,
Peachey
Tammie wrote: "Sorry that should say hello on my previous comment."Lol. Hello, Tammie! You can read whatever you like at whatever pace you choose. Some readers map out their books ahead of time while others just pick out books as they go. You can find ideas in the group bookshelves, the challenge master list, or in the country listings located in the lower half of the group site. I am happy to help you find your way around the group topics or answer any questions you may have.
Hi everyone! My name is Janet. I just found this group through a link on a Listopia List. I live in the US in Florida, but grew up in New England. When I was a young adult, I travelled at every opportunity. Now my travel is limited. I am an avid reader and have an interest in reading books set in other countries, as well as states in the US where I have not been.
Looks like I just missed the discussion on The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry, which I am currently reading.
Diane, I am also a nurse by background, but have "retired" from nursing.
I look forward to participating in this group.
Kate wrote: "Hello everyone! My name is Kate - I am from a small town in New England and am currently living in South Korea as an English teacher. I'd love to meet more people from Korea, and around the world. ..."Hi Kate,
I am also from New England. I lived in several places in eastern MA. What state did you grow up in?
My daughter, now 24, was adopted from South Korea. At the time she arrived, our agency had a rule that the children were escorted to the US, so I have never been to Korea.
This looks like a good group.

Hey peoples! :)I'm an American college freshman studying cultural anthropology. So, surprise, I love to read about various cultures! I have always had a particular fascination with Europe and Eastern Asia but recently I have found myself broadening my scope of interest. I love this club's book lists organized by region! So convenient. :)
Typically I love books that are full of emotion, so I primarily read romance, war, fantasy, and post-apocalyptic books, but it's not uncommon for me to crack open a highly recommended book of any genre.
Feel free to shoot me a message, add me, recommend a book or whatever you please. :)

Hi, Jasper! Welcome to the group! Be sure to add your book to the bookshelf.
Hello! My name is Dana and I love reading, esp YA! I live in Washington State where I work in full time Christian Camping, so I love to read books that can help me relate with my campers better and have something fun to talk with them about! I don't have a lot of friends on Goodreads, and would love to make more! I love talking about books with sharing recommendations with people, so feel free to add me as a friend if you feel the same way! :D

I used to work in a residential boys camp in the summertime. What a fun experience!

I am a program director for an after school program, and before that did 5 summers at a summer camp in Ohio. Awesome to know someone is in this group that has also experienced the wonders of camp! :D
Hi everybody! I'm Diana. I'm a New Yorker but I'm living in Paris and writing a book about South Africa, which is confusing and fun. I love reading about far-away places, though my heart will forever remain in New Jersey (William Carlos Williams country!)
I'm excited to join this group because I can be quite lazy in my reading, returning to familiar authors/styles over and over.
I just read A Woman in Berlin (difficult but worthwhile). I can never remember my favorite-ever books but some of them are J.D. Salinger's Nine Stories, Rian Malan's My Traitor's Heart, Alexandra Fuller's Don't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight, Beryl Markham's West With the Night, and Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath.
Nice to meet everyone!

If any one has any good recommendations for history books in particular, I would be happy to have them so I can learn the history of places, that would be awesome.
Thanks, and happy reading!
