Introductions

Hi, Lindsey! Welcome to the group! One history book I really enjoyed was The Secret History of the Mongol Queens: How the Daughters of Genghis Khan Rescued His Empire. I'm sure there were quite a few more, but that is all that is currently coming to mind.

I love travel and would like to see more of the world than I already have - books are a great way to at least get a taste of other cultures!
Please feel free to contact me anytime :)

Welcome, Kate!

That's brilliant, thanks!

Hi, Cathy! YA books certainly come with the territory when you teach MS & HS, and I am sure especially as a media specialist. I find myself reading a lot more YA since I started teaching MS (and having two adolescent kids in the house!). I'm so glad you have joined our group.

Welcome to the group, Veronica!

Nice to meet so many people who enjoy travelling through books, just as I do. My name is Alex, from Kiev, Ukraine. Now I live in Israel.

Hello, Alex! So nice to have you here with us!

Welcome, Glenda! I love your quote. The '70's were probably a fabulous time in which to see Europe.

Hi, Stacia! It is so hard to just read one book from an area, isn't it? It sounds like you are already hooked on reading around the world. You have come to the right place!

Hello, Christine! I look forward to seeing where your books will take you in 2014!

Happy travels to you all.

Hi, Anne! So glad you have joined us and are participating in the circumnavigator challenge! Happy travels to you, too!

Welcome to the group, Tracy!

I love to read domestic and read international fiction!"
Hola, Isabel! Welcome to the group!

Welcome to the group, René!

Thanks so much for the kind words, Moira! Hope we won't distract you too much from your dissertation. Oh, but isn't it just fabulous to be able to escape into a good book!

Welcome to the group, Leila!

Welcome to the group, Peter! Happy to have you here!

Welcome to the group. It's funny, I'm just reading that book with Passepartout now. He isn't the most enthusiastic of travelers so far, poor thing, but it's early days...
Happy reading - and writing.

Regards,
Peachey

Lol. Hello, Tammie! You can read whatever you like at whatever pace you choose. Some readers map out their books ahead of time while others just pick out books as they go. You can find ideas in the group bookshelves, the challenge master list, or in the country listings located in the lower half of the group site. I am happy to help you find your way around the group topics or answer any questions you may have.

I am an avid reader and have an interest in reading books set in other countries, as well as states in the US where I have not been.
Looks like I just missed the discussion on The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry, which I am currently reading.
Diane, I am also a nurse by background, but have "retired" from nursing.
I look forward to participating in this group.

Hi Kate,
I am also from New England. I lived in several places in eastern MA. What state did you grow up in?
My daughter, now 24, was adopted from South Korea. At the time she arrived, our agency had a rule that the children were escorted to the US, so I have never been to Korea.
This looks like a good group.

Hi, Janet! Welcome! I am from New England originally. I lived in Maine and NH.

I'm an American college freshman studying cultural anthropology. So, surprise, I love to read about various cultures! I have always had a particular fascination with Europe and Eastern Asia but recently I have found myself broadening my scope of interest. I love this club's book lists organized by region! So convenient. :)
Typically I love books that are full of emotion, so I primarily read romance, war, fantasy, and post-apocalyptic books, but it's not uncommon for me to crack open a highly recommended book of any genre.
Feel free to shoot me a message, add me, recommend a book or whatever you please. :)

Hi, Jasper! Welcome to the group! Be sure to add your book to the bookshelf.

Hi, Dana! I love camping! I used to work in a residential boys camp in the summertime. What a fun experience!

That's awesome! I am a program director for an after school program, and before that did 5 summers at a summer camp in Ohio. Awesome to know someone is in this group that has also experienced the wonders of camp! :D
Hi everybody! I'm Diana. I'm a New Yorker but I'm living in Paris and writing a book about South Africa, which is confusing and fun. I love reading about far-away places, though my heart will forever remain in New Jersey (William Carlos Williams country!)
I'm excited to join this group because I can be quite lazy in my reading, returning to familiar authors/styles over and over.
I just read A Woman in Berlin (difficult but worthwhile). I can never remember my favorite-ever books but some of them are J.D. Salinger's Nine Stories, Rian Malan's My Traitor's Heart, Alexandra Fuller's Don't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight, Beryl Markham's West With the Night, and Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath.
Nice to meet everyone!

If any one has any good recommendations for history books in particular, I would be happy to have them so I can learn the history of places, that would be awesome.
Thanks, and happy reading!
